Rachel Richards Ropework Decorative and practical knotted and marlinspike items, handmade. Bespoke items, wraps and covering work welcome! All items are hand-made by myself.

From 'Tying The Knot' to hairclips, tablemats to wreaths, functional and decorative marlinspike items are great gifts for everyone! I have always had a piece of string in my pocket. Growing up in a sailing family, I watched my father battle daily with his knotting string habit which rubbed off on me. When I married a fellow competitive sailor, I made sisal monkey fists to hold our table numbers and notices. whilst making these pieces, I rediscovered my love of tying knots and the rest, as they say, is history. This page is to showcase some of my ropework and give an idea of the things I can make on request. most of my work is in hempex, manilla and control line, although other materials are available if required. All items of ropework posted on this page are for sale. I am happy to be contacted through the page to sell items.

I have had yet another fantastic time at the Harwich Redoubt Fort at the Harwich International Sea Shanty Festival. Songs were sung, rope was sold, workshops were great (including a guest appearance from one of the renowned fort ghosts) and random stuff was commissioned by the superb re-enactors.

Today, a cat-o-nine-tails was requested by a lovely gentleman, fed up of being hit and wanting to get his own back! 😂

I love being asked to make something different and this is only the second cat I’ve made.
