For the past few months, I’ve been quietly working on something completely new — and today I can finally share it with you.

Pocket Art Studio is my new coaching app for anyone who wants to explore gold leaf and decorative art, whether you’re completely new to it or already making art and looking for fresh ideas and motivation.

I wanted to create somewhere that feels a little like having me in your pocket — guiding you through techniques, encouraging you to experiment, and helping you build confidence and develop your own creative style. I love teaching, sharing and this gives me a bigger opportunity to inspire others.

There are guided activities, personalised pathways, creative experiments, videos and resources — plus amazing tech that can give you feedback and troubleshooting!

I realised recently that I’ve never actually introduced myself properly on here… so hello! 👋

I’m Louise — an artist and teacher with a particular weakness for gold leaf, decorative painting, blossom, birds and anything that gives me an excuse to experiment with beautiful materials. ✨

My creative life has taken quite a few twists and turns over the years, from painting murals to teaching, making commissions, starting a YouTube channel and, most recently, creating something completely new that I’ll be sharing much more about very soon.

Somewhere along the way, a lovely community has gathered around all of it — and I’m very glad you’re here.

I’ve been practicing squiggly pool water in Gouache, a medium I absolutely love!! I taught a lesson to one of my classes with a range of techniques with gouache and watercolour. You think it’s never going to work, then you step back and go WOW, let’s dive in. This is some friends’ stunning house in Italy where I was lucky enough to spend a few days this summer. I painted some big kitties to take part in the fabulous Erika’s community Cats Exhibition at Palette and Pizza. I’d had a yearning to paint a tiger for a while, but then decided to paint a family scene which made me reminisce for the days when my kiddos were tiny cute cubs 🩵🩷 40 x 40cm oils and imitation goldleaf on canvas. This was a recent joyful commission, encompassing many of my favourite things 🌟🌟🌟 I’d never had to opportunity to create these gorgeous waves before, with gold and copper elements…. F u n. Always feels like such a privilege when people put their trust in you to create something bespoke, and faintly nerve wracking till they finally see it in person and confirm that our visions have matched up! 🙏🙏🙏🌟

Apparently, people love tiny things, shiny things and golden things...

So naturally I made tiny, shiny, golden hummingbirds. ✨🐦✨

These little coasters started with gold leaf, then hand-painted hummingbirds and tropical flowers, before being finished with a glossy coat of resin.

I’m slightly obsessed with how jewel-like they’ve become. 💛

And of course, because no creative project is ever completely straightforward, each one has its own tiny mystery imperfection hiding somewhere... more on that soon!

Monday & Tuesday Night!! Epic results created by all the wonderful people who came to join our event, eat divine and unique pizzas and go away with their own masterpieces. We were creating our own Homage to the iconic Yayoi Kusama’s work. This is one of her Mushroom paintings which had so many satisfying and intriguing elements to recreate! Especially the red lined lattice pattern of the background. Kusama suffered hallucinations as a child, and Mushroom’s featured strongly. She’s 97 and still going strong. Erika and I agreed that’s the absolute Dream for us arty peeps, if we’re so lucky.

Sometimes a painting waits until it’s ready 🧚🏼 I began this painting last Spring BUT only finished her yesterday, and I’m so glad I did as it had been bugging me. She deserved the final tiny feather details and billowing whiteness of the Blackthorn. “Bullfinch & Blackthorn” - (Link in Bio). Textured Acrylics on a Silver Leaf circular canvas. I often neglect poor Silver… it changes so beautifully with the light, while the little Bullfinch snuggles warmly amongst the blossom. Original Artwork now available on my website.
