We’re delighted to share the completion of our recent project at The Granby, Whitby

This was a SODA Design & Build project, and we’re incredibly proud to have delivered a full internal refurbishment that brings fresh energy and character to this much-loved venue.

The works included new floor finishes and lighting, refreshed fixed seating and loose furniture, full internal decorations, new back bars, a multi-fuel log burner installation, and decorative sparkle across the guest rooms.

The finished scheme brings together traditional character with a colourful twist, complete with new bric-a-brac and subtle maritime and nautical features that nod to Whitby’s coastal charm.

A huge thank you to Lucy Woodhouse, Tony Iles and Chris De La Hoyde at Punch for all their help and support in bringing this project together, as well as to our very own build team and partnering suppliers for their hard work and collaboration throughout.

Another SODA-designed & built project is complete! ✅

We’re proud to share the completed refurbishment of Man within Compass in Coalville.
A project designed and delivered by SODA from concept through to completion.

While this was a more focused scheme in scale, it’s a great example of how thoughtful design, practical delivery and attention to detail can make a real impact. Every project is an opportunity to improve the customer experience, protect the building and create a better trading environment, and this one delivered exactly that.

The works included sanding and re-staining the timber flooring, full decorations with feature wallpaper, new dress curtains, selected new light fittings, a full WC refurbishment, new upper backfitting and essential Punch Property Standards works to help protect the building, ensuring the site is sound and ready for trade.

A huge thank you to Azeem Iqbal and Harry Bourne at Punch, as well as our very own Olivia Parsons, Carl Tunnicliffe, and the team, for helping to bring this project together.

Projects like this are exactly where SODA can add real value. Combining design, build, project delivery and practical property expertise under one roof.

✨ Project complete at Old School House, Aberdeen 🍻

This Grade A-listed, granite-fronted building first opened in 1840 as Aberdeen’s Town School before later becoming part of the prestigious Aberdeen Academy. 🧑🏻‍🏫
Now, after 18 months from brief to handover, it has been carefully refreshed as a welcoming social space.

The works included enhanced kerb appeal with new signage and external furniture, new flooring, lighting, fixed seating, and loose furniture throughout. We also created a designated first-floor sports viewing area, refreshed the back-fitting with new tiling, shelving and bottle steps, fully refurbished the ladies’ and gents’ toilets, and altered the accessible WC to make it compliant.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, including Greene King Pubs Project Managers Rachel Homewood and Joe Grieves, Contracts Manager Jamie Cuthbert at Myriad Contracts, and QS Morris Edgington.

A new guest experience at The Copley Arms, Part 2. ✨

After sharing the transformation of the guest bedrooms, we’re continuing our look at The Copley Arms refurbishment with the spaces at the centre of the guest experience: The pub and restaurant.

For these main areas, our design focused on updating the overall look and feel while retaining the traditional character that makes The Copley Arms such a welcoming Cornish pub. 🍺

The works included a full decoration scheme, new floor finishes and FF&E throughout the ground floor, along with new zoned furniture layouts designed to improve flow, increase covers and create a more comfortable guest experience.

In the dining area, a new fireplace and fixed seating layouts help restore that cosy, traditional pub atmosphere, giving guests a warm, relaxed setting to enjoy food, drinks and a good old chinwag.

Once again, a huge thank you to St Austell Brewery Hollie Styler and Andy Spry, Gary Chapman at PSE Associates, Jack Lennox and the Mark 2 team, and Hannah and Jarod for their collaboration on the pub and restaurant transformation.

✨ Showcasing SODA ✨

Meet Connor, our brilliant Marketing and Operations Coordinator! 🎨📋

Connor has been part of the SODA team for 2 years, starting as an Administrator and working his way up to his current role. Since joining, he’s been involved in some of the company’s biggest transformations and periods of growth, helping shape the way we work behind the scenes.

He was also one of the first employees to help organise the reactive maintenance service we provide, playing an important part in building a key part of what SODA offers today. 👏🏻

We asked him what he loves most about his career, and this is what he had to say:

💬 "I love that no two days are the same. I get to problem-solve, organise, source, and use my creative background to help bring the company’s brand to life. I really enjoy being able to support the team, boost morale, and showcase the amazing work we do in a way that feels fresh, colourful and engaging."

Connor’s creativity, organisation, and positive energy make such a difference across the business, and we’re lucky to have him as part of Team SODA. 💙

Who’s going to be next in our showcasing series? We can’t wait to share more of our amazing colleagues.

A new guest experience at The Copley Arms ✨

We’re proud to share the recently completed refurbishment of The Copley Arms in Hessenford, a characterful Cornish pub with rooms transformed for St Austell Brewery.

As part of the refurbishment, the accommodation has been carefully reworked to increase the pub’s guest room offering from 5 to 8 rooms.

Each guest room has received a full fit-out, including new floor finishes, lighting, decorations, furniture and fittings. The design creates a sense of contrast and discovery, with dark, warm red corridors leading into light, airy guest rooms, giving the accommodation an intimate, atmospheric “hidden gem” feel.

A huge thank you to:
- Hollie Styler and Andy Spry at St Austell Brewery
- Gary Chapman at PSE Associates
- Jack Lennox and team at Mark 2 Builders and Bar Fitters
- And of course, Hannah and Jarod, the publicans, for helping bring the bedrooms to life.

This challenge is about more than the miles; it’s about making a real difference. Every donation helps Leeds Mind continue their incredible work supporting those who need it most.

Even though we have reached our initial goal... If you can, please show your support.

⛰️ Taking on the Malham Cove Challenge for !

We are incredibly proud to announce that one of our very own is stepping up (literally!) for mental health.
On May 2nd, Connor, our Marketing Coordinator, will be taking on the Malham Cove Challenge to raise vital funds for Leeds Mind.

This isn’t just your average Sunday stroll. Starting in the beautiful village of Malham, this full-day adventure is a true test of fitness and grit.
The route includes:
✨ Janet’s Foss: A trek through lush, magical scenery to the famous waterfall.
🧗 Gordale Scar: A serious limestone gorge where they’ll be rock climbing through the back of the Scar beside two spectacular waterfalls (fully guided by the pros!).
🌊 Malham Tarn & Cove: Reaching the summit for those iconic views before crossing the legendary limestone pavement.

Why we’re doing this: Mental health support has never been more important. Leeds Mind does incredible work in our community, ensuring that no one has to face a mental health difficulty alone. Every penny raised goes directly toward local services, support groups, and counselling.

💙 How you can help
Connor is putting in the training miles, so let’s show him some support!
If you’re able to donate, even just £1, every little bit helps us reach our goal and fuels the climb up that gorge.
