So a little while ago I put a post out about offering 2 hours of free gardening in memory of my friend, James Metcalfe.

I got a few suggestions but unfortunately nothing that could be done immediately so in the meantime I went litter picking around two of the parks in Wrenthorpe.

I picked a great morning for it with it being -5 degrees today 🥶 I also seemed to find a lot more tissues (with what I optimistically hope was chocolate on them) than I was expecting, and an old boot, but it was nice to honour my friend and give something back.

The offer of free gardening for someone in need still stands and is something I want to do a couple of times a year in his memory, so if you do know of anyone that this could benefit, someone facing tough times or in poor health for example, please send them my way.

Now this was a long one! Full clearance here with a few surprises found a long the way. Mainly old tree stumps, and gardening equipment, but this rake that I found by standing on it was a highlight. It went straight into my foot, but I finished the job…didn’t even swear once 🤭

Handyman job today. Fixed this garage door that had warped over time and would no longer close, or lock, and had gaps at the top and bottom. I think the size of these original screws, that I would describe as far too small, had something to do with it (as pictured).

I cut the door down, refit the locks, reattached supports, and put some new strips across the top and bottom to ensure a better seal.

Will be back to paint the door and the rest of the wall.

Something special to me here so please share. I’m offering 2 hours gardening completely free in the Wakefield area. I need suggestions of where this could help, so either someone who’s struggling, a charity, or an area of common ground that just needs some love.

To submit a suggestion for the gardening please send me a private message with the location, some photos, a description of what needs doing, and how this would help the person/community/charity. I will pick a location in due course with a view to doing the work around the end of September or early October. I will update the top of this post when it’s closed, but that will just depend on how many suggestions are sent in.

This is in memory of my friend, one of the kindest, most caring people I’ve ever met, James Metcalfe, gone far too soon but not forgotten. He’s pictured here when he smashed one of his goals and got selected to do the London marathon.

Just a few terms and conditions…Preferable if there is somewhere to put the waste, a garden bin ideally, but if not I am willing to take away what I can (basically what would fit in my own garden waste bin). I also would need access to a power socket within 20 meters of the site.

You do not need to be following my page to submit a suggestion, this is not a competition, I just want to give back in memory of my friend. Thank you.
