We're talking about patterns you've sat on your entire life without a second thought.

Back in the 1930s, London Transport's publicity officer Christian Barman had a genuinely brilliant idea. He commissioned actual artists to design the upholstery for the carriages. Which is a pretty extraordinary thing to do with a train seat, if you think about it.

Kirkby Design has now done this three times, and Underground Vol. III might be the best one yet. Eight archival moquettes lifted straight from the archive and rewoven as luxury upholstery velvets. The diamond check designed for the District line in 1936. The tartan from the Metropolitan in 1938. A 1930s art deco houndstooth that once covered the 601 tram between Twickenham and Tolworth.

History that most people have spent decades sitting on, completely ignoring. Now on some seriously beautiful sofas.
