I wasn’t going to post on this, but I feel as a baker, I need to stand up for myself and other bakers who work so hard running a business.

Several of you may have heard of Terry Bakes he has certainly hit the headlines! I honestly find this whole situation incredibly difficult to watch. His greed and ego have finally become his downfall.

We all know how much work goes into running a baking business. The long hours, the cost of ingredients, the pressure of deadlines and, most importantly, the trust customers put in us when they hand over their money.

So to see customers apparently being left without orders and out of pocket by this man, while he heads off on shopping sprees and holiday is shocking. It doesn’t just affect those customers either — it reflects badly on the rest of us working in this industry who take our businesses, our customers and our reputations seriously.

What I find even more disappointing is seeing other bakers defending or supporting this behaviour.

You can support someone's mental health without supporting their actions. You can have compassion for someone going through a difficult time without pretending that customers haven't been badly let down.

If you're a baker and you're actively defending what has happened, honestly, you should be ashamed. We should be standing up for the customers who trusted a fellow baker, not making excuses for behaviour that damages the reputation of an entire industry.

Most of us are grafting every single day to do things properly. We might not have the biggest following, the flashiest business or thousands of people telling us how amazing we are — but our customers get what they paid for.

And frankly, I'll take that kind of success any day.
