Blink and you'll miss it… but you really shouldn't. 🚗💨

Not quite Manhattan, but we think we've earned the billboard. Holt Antiques is now open at Unit 1, Hall Farm, East Raynham.

There are over many pieces of early oak, country furniture, ecclesiastical antiques and curiosities spanning the 15th to the early 19th century, and much of it has never been seen online.

Why not visit? Too good to miss… See website for opening times.

Asked to choose a favourite from the current portrait stock, we failed completely.

First, the young gentleman in a scarlet coat and full-bottomed wig, holding a flower beside an urn of blooms. He has the confident air of the early eighteenth century. Then the dark-haired young lady in white, in her gilt oval. She is Regency in spirit and perfectly composed. Then the richly painted panel of a costumed attendant carrying flowers and fruit, set before a draped curtain. It is theatrical, decorative and impossible to walk past. And finally the sitter in a black bonnet and blackwork collar, with an inscription and coat of arms above. He is pure mid-sixteenth-century Northern European portrait convention, and he gave us the most trouble of all.

Four sitters, four centuries of looking back at us. We have given up deciding. Perhaps you can help?

Which would you take home? Tell us below, or come and stand in front of them at Hall Farm, East Raynham.

The last mile to Holt Antiques, East Raynham.

We've now been open at Hall Farm for just over a week, and the most common question is still "how do we find you?" So here's the drive, filmed this morning in good autumn light. You come down the hedged road into the village, past the parkland trees, and turn in by the old flint barns. Then it's along the farm track with the fields opening out on your left, past the farmhouse, and into the courtyard of pantiled brick and flint buildings. Look for the grey doors and our sign.

Inside you'll find hundreds of pieces brought over from Walsingham Mill: early oak, country furniture, ecclesiastical objects and curiosities from the fifteenth to the early nineteenth century.

There's parking, and the kettle is usually on.

For sale from us and available online!

Small, but perfectly formed.

A late 17th-century lepelrek, or spoon rack, from the Low Countries, still wearing its original red-brown paint.

In Dutch and Flemish kitchens, spoons were displayed with pride, bowls uppermost, beneath a little gabled hood like a canal-house front. Nulled carving runs down the edges, the tell-tale ornament of the 1600s.

Just 15¾ inches high!

Coffee, the 18th-century way!

This side-handled copper pot was hand-raised, dovetailed and brazed by a Continental coppersmith, with the turned handle set at right angles to the swan-neck spout so it could be lifted straight from the hearth and poured in one movement.

Wonderfu patina, hammer facets still visible, and a handle polished by generations of hands.

Before electric bells and intruder alarms, there was this...

A mid-19th-century door wedge alarm in brass and steel. You slid it under the bedroom door, set the twin hammers, and placed a percussion cap beneath each one. If an intruder pushed the door, the caps fired with a crack loud enough to rouse the household, and the wedge still held the door fast.

You might say "Belt and braces, Victorian style."
