This is our Pin cushion which we taught as a recent retreat, plate was used to decorate the side of the pin cushion we ribbled the plate (made the plate wavy) to give extra texture and then stitched down with green sill thread on every dip. This is an example of how plate can be used in a different way, surrounded by other threads giving an elegant look to the overall design.

Spotlight on student
Over the next few days we are going to look at Plate and its uses in projects. This fabulous design of a hummingbird in flight was stitched by our very own Kate. Plate has been used for the long fine beak of the bird in a tight zig zag, plate can be tricky to use, and takes a little bit of practice. The stitches have been added at the creases where the plate has been bent over to go back across the area in a zigzag fashion, the angle can be different depending on the area and how tight you want the plate to sit, this plate is also sat on top of felt padding giving it a lifted appearance. I am sure you will agree that it looks fabulous

Over the next few days we are going to look at Plate and its uses in projects. This fabulous design of a letter M stitched by Pat, with a gorgeous Unicorn with a magnificent horn which has been created using silver 11's plate . Plate can be tricky to use, and takes a little bit of practice. the stitches have been added at the edges where the plate has been bent over to go back across the area in a zigzag fashion, the angle can be different depending on the area and how tight you want the plate to sit, this plate is also sat on top of felt padding giving it a lifted appearance. We have just added a brand new plate to our collection 6's plate! This plate is a finer plate which is approximately 0.5mm diameter - about half the size of the 11's Plate. ✨Spotlight on student ✨

Over the next few days we are going to look at Plate and and its uses in projects. This fabulous design of Hot air balloons stitched by Mary, all with different designs and techniques making each balloon individual. On this dark blue balloon Mary has used broad plate to give this zig zag effect across the balloon giving a lovely effect. Plate can be tricky to use, and takes a little bit of practice. the stitches have been added at the edges where the plate has been bent over to go back across the area in a zigzag fashion, the angle can be different depending on the area and how tight you want the plate to sit, this plate is also sat on top of felt padding giving it a lifted appearance.
