As most of you are aware the vintage side of Vanilla Deco has taken a back seat over recent years but I still have a whole load of vintage items squirreled away in my summerhouse. more often than not follow trends on the catwalk. If I'm being truly honest though I have no idea what's hot on the catwalk!

Anyway, I popped up to Decorex at Kensington Olympia (love the architecture) this week with to spot some new trends coming through and meet various suppliers and actually touch and feel things!

So, what's new then....burnt orange it MASSIVE, definitely the now colour. The other thing that popped up on ever second stand was boucle fabric, usually covering an organic shaped sofa or arm chair. In fact curves in general were everywhere, not a boxy piece of furniture in sight. I'm afraid there wasn't a drop of grey anywhere either. I think we can officially declare grey is well and truly dead (in trend terms at least).

Anyway, the highlight for me was this light. I have been lusting after a pair of original holophane glass Parisian street lamps for years, but unfortunately for me the hefty price tag a ball obsessed tween, meant they were never a realistic prospect. But hey presto, Pooky have their own take on said lusted after light which I think is gorgeous!

Sometimes getting out and seeing things in person is the only way to get reinspired. We can get rather caught up in sitting at home and working from a screen, but there's nothing like a trip out to start to feel more creative again and to spot the new trends.

Is there such a thing as too matchy matchy? No, thought not! Go large, max and match the pattern! Be brave!

F R I D A Y F L O W E R S

So, I have had a proper flouncy Friday learning how to hand tie a bouquet, as opposed to plonking those blooms in a vase! A lot of fun with a lovely bunch and great ladies teaching us !

So, kind of following on from my last post really....isn't it uplifting to have flowers in the house? And look at those complimentary colours!

What's more, these guys are as eco as they come so it ticks my eco boxes too. Worth looking up this local business if you live in or around Surrey or SW London and like a bunch of very reasonably priced but beautiful flowers.

Can you imagine my delight when I catch my teen taking the classic floor tile / shoes picture with her brand spanking new birthday DM boots! I have taught her well!

You can't go wrong with a bit of B&W. If you love it, but find it a bit stark, add an accent colour to soften it in an interiors scheme.

A statement light can often make a space. I often tell people to spend money on one big statement item and then the rest can be styled around it, and still give the wow factor. For me, oversized lighting gives that immediate impact!

Rooms that grow with you..... it's not just about redecorating for redecorating's sake it is often about a room changing to fulfil demands, particularly as a family's demands change.

Finally our newly revamped family room (and current gym) has come together. Previous pics show how it has changed over the 12 years from playroom, to a halfway house and now a room where we can all watch a film together!
