🖤🌊 Look what’s just landed at The Whitby Witch…
Hag stones — gathered lovingly from the wild North East coast by the wonderful Rebecca — have finally made their way onto Silver Street.
Each one arrives cosied up in a little pouch, complete with a folklore scroll telling the old stories behind these strange, sea‑born treasures.
These stones have wandered through centuries of belief:
- Known as Hag Stones, Odin Stones, Adder Stones, Faery Stones, and more, their naturally‑formed holes were shaped by water — and with it, all the magic water carries.
- Witches used them for healing, protection, fertility work, and to see into the Otherworld.
- Sailors tied them to their boats to keep witches, storms and ill‑luck at bay.
- Farmers hung them in barns to guard livestock from mischief, sickness, or being spirited away.
- And on a full moon, folklore says that peering through one may reveal faeries, elementals, sea spirits… even mermaids.
✨ A little extra coastal magic:
Some of Rebecca’s stones come from shores where the burrowing piddock lives — a strange little creature that drills into soft rock, leaving behind hollowed chambers. Folklore whispers that these piddock‑carved holes carry deep sea energy, amplifying protection, intuition and the ability to “see between worlds”. Stones touched by both tide and creature were once prized as especially potent charms.
Thread one on a red cord for Samhain, hang one above your door for protection, or keep one in your pocket when wandering the Moors or searching for faeries among the trees.
They’re available now, ready to bring a bit of old magic into your home, your craft, or your pocket.
