We’re hijacking our pizza specials page to get a last-minute mention in for this Saturday’s Wincanton History Day. Some of you may know that Ian is chair of Wincanton History Society, whose board has worked tirelessly to plan a huge, town-wide event, which this year champions ‘The Horse’. There will be a parade of horses, a classic car parade, a children’s hobby horse parade, metal detecting, Victorian school room, antiques valuations, artisan crafts, a tea dance and so much more. Specials for the week of 31 March
Tuesday: Meaty four seasons time: ham and mushroom, prosciutto and artichoke, spicey nduja sausage and pineapple, and salami and black olives. On a tomato and cheese base.
Wednesday: Buoyed up by the Spring weather, here’s something light and delicious. Goat’s cheese, fresh pear, walnuts and a drizzle of honey, on a cheese and tomato base.
Thursday: Deliciously gooey Provolone cheese with fresh tomatoes, capers and Kalamata black olives. Simple, classic, delicious.
Friday: Moroccan spiced beef meatballs, preserved lemon, plenty of chopped flatleaf parsley, aubergine and tahini yoghurt dressing.
Saturday: Brie and bacon, with Portobello mushrooms and red onion, on a tomato and cheese base.
Sunday: Pancetta, wilted spinach and black olives on a Padano cheese and cream base. The Padano cheese and cream base goes well with the salty pancetta and the freshness of the spinach.
