Another busy Saturday in the Centre but first thing this morning the Sterling Silver mystery item that we believe to be a Double Pointed Needle holder sold to a very happy customer !

We think we’ve cracked it. 🔎

But we could be completely wrong…

A bookmark? We’re not buying it. Despite a few online examples being labelled as such, it simply doesn’t make sense.

A skewer holder? Now we’re getting somewhere… but then why on earth would it be made like this?

We’ve got our theory. And we’re confident.

Just arrived at the Centre!

A lovely piece of Georgian silver

This George III card tray salver was hallmarked in London in 1776 and made by Robert Makepeace & Richard Carter.

Approx. 17.5 cm in diameter and weighing around 247 grams, it is a beautiful example of 18th-century silver, now 250 years old.

It’s always fascinating to think about where a piece like this has been and the homes it may have passed through over the years.

Imagine the tales this piece could tell over its 250 years, imagine the home it was originally purchased for !
