WE GOT IT! π₯³ Something new is coming to Maryport, a new chapter in the ever growing Maryport Creatives' Trust project. This is for YOU! But we also need your help. Opening soon is our community retail and maker space.
π-----"THE PLAN"-----π
Downstairs: Anyone who's a local artist or creative, can sell their work, on a small commission basis. 1 meter square (approx) of display space is allocated to you free of charge (extra space, if available, at a small charge). This space is also a place where community projects can connect with each other, share information, advertise and support one another. It's an information hub and box office for anything creative happening in the town, from art exhibitions to live music events. There will be a comfy area to chat and help yourself to tea and coffee. A public access piano for anyone to practice/learn on or show off! We'll also be selling new arts materials, theatrical makeup and a selection of musical instruments - to help promote and encourage creative activity within our fabulous town.
Upstairs: This our "maker space", 3D printing, large format/canvas printing, t-shirt printing, laser engraving, a sewing bench etc. etc.. This section is available to members (coming soon) and each piece of equipment will require training/induction into its correct and safe use, or volunteers may be available to use the equipment for you.
--------------------
This has only been made possible through the support, encouragement, donations, time, skills and goodwill of countless people across our community π
In many ways, this space has already been built by Maryport.
Our aim is to create something that supports and strengthens the wider creative community. Wherever possible, we hope to sustain the project through community support, memberships, donations, commissions and trading activity. We recognise that many local projects and organisations rely on grants and external funding to survive. We would always think carefully before pursuing any funding that might be better directed elsewhere, and would much rather work alongside other projects than compete with them.
This space exists because people chose to support it. We hope it will become a place that gives something back to the whole community!
-----SO NOW! A call to alms! π π
We need people who want to get involved.
We need doers and thinkers. Decorators, carpenters, electricians, artists, makers, organisers, tea-makers, shelf-builders, sign-painters, problem-solvers, piano players, we even need an accountant.
Perhaps you have skills to share.
Perhaps you have tools, materials, furniture or equipment that could be useful.
Perhaps you'd simply like to lend a hand for a few hours and help us transform this space into something special.
Not everyone can donate money, that's absolutely fine. Time, skills, encouragement, ideas and practical help are just as valuable.
If you'd like to be part of building something positive for Maryport, we'd love to hear from you! π
