Darkly themed scented candles
www.roomspell.com The role of scent in our lives is very important. They are also available in other locations via stockists.

The aim of Room Spell is to disrupt the world of scented candles, by offering alternative ways to scent your chosen space. It can evoke powerful memories and give a sense of contentedness. Room Spell offers scented products unlike any others on the current home scenting market. Dark themes of myths, legends, gloomy history and grim nature, offer up some very interesting opportunities to make vastly different and unique scent profiles, which are incredibly truthful and pull no punches. The works are sold live and in "human form" by the unmistakable Black Phillip, at various markets. But mainly, they are sold via the website: www.roomspell.com

Wanted to become part of York's market history by selling on The Shambles. Done it now. Weirdly proud.

Thanks to Make It York for setting it up.

TONIGHT we join the long history of the legendary Shambles market, by selling at it! We'll have candles and we'll have perfumes!

7:30pm til 10pm! Come see it happen! Loads of other traders too, including the lovely Kirsty Ryder

This may not look like anything impressive, but it is. The picture shows the final finished roll of Essence of Vampire labels. This means that we have sold 1,990 Essence of Vampire candles, since we began 5 years ago (just poured 10, so the full number is 2,000!)

Essence of Vampire is by far the most popular candle that we sell. But f**k me, 1990 units. That's a lot of wax!

Thank you to everyone who buys from us! Fear not - we will have Essence of Vampire available at The Pavilion in Whitby at the weekend!

Well that was a bit good on Saturday! Had a bit of time to recover now and can finally share some thoughts.

After a very panic-filled start with technology problems, things settled into what we think was an event that was even better than last year. Each one of our amazing traders shone brightly. Many connections with new customers were made. The event is set to become a yearly fixture, in York's jam packed events calendar. We feel very proud to be the custodians of such an amazing event. We have extraordinary levels of respect for York Castle Museum, and it's staff. The museum team that oversaw the event couldn't have been better. The museum is lucky to have them on their team.

Naturally, a freak storm happened on the day of the market. It was amazing to see traders, museum staff and guests all braving the weather, to keep their commitments to the event. It felt like we were all in the same boat. A real win for alternative culture in York.

Thank you to all guests. Without your support, the event would not be able to exist. We genuinely appreciate every single ticket that you buy. It covers all of the (many, many) costs of the event, whilst also providing fuel to add more immersive content to the next event. Long may it continue.

It is simple: we'll keep hosting them if you keep coming to them.

And so, the portal to a haunted version of Kirkgate has closed for another year. Thank you to everyone who came.

Much love, from a couple of very content goths.

Black Phillip doing a "YUS!" as it prepares itself for tonight's festivities. It's handshake is firmer than concrete. It's mind is darker that midnight. It's stance is formidable. And tonight, for one night, you get to meet it.

We hope you have tickets, for what is quite simply our superbowl event. Enter if you dare, leave with something unusual. Perhaps one of the many ghosts that congregate in York Castle Museum will take itself home with you. Who knows?

The only way to find out is by attending.

See you there!

TOMORROW!

21/10/2026

We are on the verge of a period of time, that we have affectionately called "hell week".

3 markets, in very quick succession, one of which we are organising! Rapid turnaround times, urgent restocks, logistical nightmares and things beyond our control have all been considered, in the same way that preppers prepare for the apocalypse.

So, COME SEE US!

Saturday 24th (this coming Saturday!) - Black Phillip's York Castle Museum Night(mare) Market.

Wednesday 28th - Haunted York Night Market (in The Shambles)

Saturday 31st and Sunday 1st - Tomorrow's Ghosts market - downstairs at Whitby Pavilion during the day, for Whitby Goth Weekend (please note we won't be there on Friday)

Wish us luck. We're going to need it!
