Is it too early to start your Christmas sewing? We don’t think so!

Our next Block of the Month workshop is the perfect excuse to get those festive fabrics out and make something lovely.

With our brilliant tutor Helen, you’ll discover the basics of improv quilting, create your own improv log cabin blocks and transform them into a traditional Japanese rice bag. Choose a Christmas colour palette for a handmade gift, or pick fabrics that bring a little more of your own personality to the project.

And the best bit? You’ll be learning new techniques in the company of fellow makers, with plenty of support, encouragement and friendly conversation along the way.

There are two dates to choose from:
Saturday 31st October or Saturday 28th November.

The workshop is the same on both dates, so please book just one session. Places are limited!

You’ll need your own sewing machine and materials, including 100% cotton fabrics, batting, coordinating ribbon and your usual sewing essentials. We’ll provide the tuition, refreshments and, of course, the lovely BOTM atmosphere. Please bring your own lunch.

Oh, Malabrigo Rios, you beautiful thing!

If you love yarn that feels as gorgeous as it looks, you need to take a look at this lot.

Malabrigo Rios is a super-soft aran-weight yarn made from premium superwash merino wool. It's lovely against the skin, strong enough for everyday wear and machine washable, making it a brilliant choice for everything from cosy cardigans and jumpers to blankets, accessories and little ones' clothes.

But let's talk about the COLOURS. From watercolour-inspired multis to semi-solids and gorgeous variegated shades, every skein has its own personality. And because they're kettle-dyed in small batches, no two batches are guaranteed to be quite the same!

We know you’ve got it. That special fabric you bought because it was too lovely to leave behind. The half-finished quilt you’ll get back to one day. The orphan blocks waiting for the right project. The stash that has outgrown its cupboard!

Could some of it become a quilted hug for a young person leaving care?

Our Quilts for Care Leavers makers are brilliant at finding a new purpose for donated fabrics and unfinished projects. They’ve been hunting for bargains, visiting destash sales and even selling things on Vinted to raise funds for the materials they need.

Now we’d love you to come and see what all that hard work has achieved.

Join us at Bugweed’s for our Quilts for Care Leavers Fundraising Quilt Show on Saturday 7 November, 10.30am–3pm. Admire the quilts, join in the fun and games, enjoy a cuppa and help us raise money for future quilts.

Every donation made at the event will be added to the Q4CL group’s Bugweed’s Gift Card.

We need to have a word with Rebecca…

At this point, we’re not entirely sure whether Rebecca works at Bugweed’s or has secretly taken up a second job as a fabric-hoarding dragon. Every time we look, there’s something new arriving, and frankly, the shelves are beginning to feel the pressure.

So, we’re passing the problem on to you lovely lot!

That includes our Halloween and Christmas prints, so you can get ahead with spooky sewing, festive pyjamas, cosy leggings and all those lovely handmade clothes you definitely have time to make. (We admire your optimism.)
