Hello all!

It seems like a while since we last posted but it’s been a prettt crazy time settling down as a newly qualified nurse and changing areas!

But I am hoping you can help!

I am now a high dependency renal and transplant nurse and my unit needs some crafty knitters and crocheters help!

The crochet project on my unit is needing new kidneys to give to donors and recipreants after transplant and I am hoping some of you on here would be up for the challenge!

I have the pattern from my preceptor and would love to make this box so full!

To be able to receive such gifts of life many wait on for months and years are life changing, and little things like a crochet kidney will make a difference at such a big transition!!

Please message and we will her back to you ASAP if you can help!

Happy 3rd birthday .legacy. I am so honoured to have been able to travel all around England to have others hear my mamas story and why a small object such as a blanket and care bags are so important in end of life care. From delivering a small seminar to university students to travelling down to London as a RN to deliver a seminar to health care professionals, talks to a Belfast university to see how KL education could help future student nurses.

And now as a qualified nurse in Stroke and being my units link nurse in end of life care makes all the tears and doubts worth it to know I can give patients love one last time 💕

I wonder where the next few years will take us? It was only intended to be 10 blankets 🤣

Thankyou to all those who have supported and believed in a project born from grief can help others 💕

We came prepared today with a big trolley to hand deliver end of life bags to three departments with special places in our hearts ❤️. To the department who cared for my uncle last year, the department who cared for my Grandad and to help the team I am part of on Stroke 🥰. These bags have things in to help patients, relatives and nursing staff to deliver the best end of life care possible at such a vital and memorable moment in people’s lives.

End of life care is everyone’s business, not just the palliative team, not just the nurse caring for that patient that day, not just for the hca doing personal cares. Together we can create change and deliver the best we can, leaving those tender moments full of memories❤️

Proud to be a end of life link nurse on Stroke and so glad we were able to give back to help others 💕

Today we took delivery of three beautiful blankets. Made with love by a very kind lady, her family and friends. They will be donated in memory of her friend and work colleague who sadly passed recently ❤️❤️

On Wednesday this week I graduated as a nurse but the trip to York wasn’t just for graduation, we were donating our first ten bags to the Critical Care Unit where I had spent my last 6 months of my degree as a student.

During that time, the fear of walking through those doors lead to a place that I could call home (as a student to find placement areas like this Is so rare).

One of the most incredible people I met in that time was the person in holding the blankets up Joe! Joe was my supervisor and has become such a close friend as he became a pivotal part of my journey to become an RN.

As Joe and I got to know each other we were able to facilitate the most delicate moments and memories for patients and relatives at the end of life.

So, to give back to a unit who helped chisel off those nerves and fears, it only felt right to donate our first 10 bags here.

During my time in CCU I was honoured as a student to participate in a lot of End of Life care but also more importantly learn about the organ donation journey, in which Joe entrusted me so many times to lead on certain aspects of care, which for that I’ll be forever grateful.

Now, as I start my nursing journey in Nottingham, I look forward to sending more bags into NUH and if possible around England to help upholster best practice in end of life care, creating a path of change to lead healthcare professionals away from fear but knowledgeable and confidence to help others feel love one last time.

Thankyou once again CCU and thankyou to Joe and Amber for your guidance and teaching over the last 6 months❤️

What a wonderful day yesterday fundraising for our comfort boxes!

Winners have been contacted, and we have raised £650!

£650 will go towards helping 65 relatives and patients in hospitals in those crucial last few hours and days of life.

Now, we need your help again🫶

We need to find a designated home for these bags to go to, but we have limited links to NUH and we would like to donate our first 15 this week!

If you are a staff member at NUH, know a relative who works there or have been a patient and follow us, please please send us suggestions to who the first lot of bags can go to!

Thankyou Mum (Mary) for organising such a fantastic raffle 🫶❤️

Did someone say MERCH😭🥰

Today we have trialled out our merch- and safe to say we are over the moon with how these have turned out.

A little sneak peak at what the comfort bags will look like also!

If anyone is interested in purchasing a tote bag or t shirt please give us a message!

The comfort bags will be going to wards in the next week or so in the Nottingham city area - if you are a healthcare professional within the Nottingham boundary who would like these or know of wards who may be running empty please comment so we can get in touch!

Over the last 6 months you may have noticed things have been running a little different. And that’s due to me coming to the end of my nursing degree and two people have taken the reigns and have ran Kathleen’s Legacy to ensure nobody goes without feeling love one last time.

These two special people are my mum (Mary) and my sister (Ava).

With such changes, it has helped me focus on finishing my degree and finally become a registered nurse 🥰.

Big thankyou to my mum and sister for doing all the bits the last few months, especially with the fundraising of our comfort boxes we want to get out to wards and units in the Nottingham area (to begin with). Our first lot of comfort packs arrive today🤯 and this is all down to them.

Tomorrow, I will be travelling to London to speak with healthcare professionals regarding our work, which is an honour but also petrifying that someone has kind enough thought of KL and wants us to talk to their staff how to make EOLc even greater 🫶 this will be my first presentation as a RN. The trust will also receive blankets and hearts to upholster their EOL trolleys to help other families and patients in central London ❤️

Good afternoon!

The first lot of comfort boxes have been ordered and with a little bit of luck, we may even be able to make 30!

Thankyou for everyone who has donated, bought tickets and spread the word 🫶
