Only a few hollyhocks are left dancing in the fragments of late summer sun and it suddenly feels like Autumn is only around the corner. September is one of our favourite months, so we thought we’d end it with an open day! Date tbc very soon 🍂

Happy International Dog Day to Dutch! Can you believe he was ever that small?! 😳. He grew up in the old shop on Little Stonegate and has adapted very well to the antiques world ever since. He’s spent many a day getting bored at an antique fair or earning Bonios in exchange for modelling beside antique furniture.

This is possibly one of the most poignant and harrowing examples of WWII ‘Trench Art’ we’ll ever come across. With provenance connecting it to Zwervers (Dutch Rover Scouts) from a town in the Netherlands. A hand-carved clog is the symbol of Dutch nationality. The initials and names etched into it, alongside the locations of forced labour camps, tell a story of defiance and resilience.

Thank you to Walter for all his efforts in translating the provenance!

This petite late Victorian oak hall bench was catching the last of the rays yesterday evening. We don’t think we’ve ever seen this exact design of turned leg before, we can only assume it’s loosely Jacobean-inspired. The shape reminds us of antique juggling clubs or artillery shells!

Whilst we sort through lots of new finds, this is currently the only tidy corner of our building!

A floral still life oil on canvas, painted in 1954 by an artist who lived not too far from us, on the East Coast in the very pretty seaside town of Filey. On the back, there are exhibition labels, the artist’s details and… a little surprise in the form of an unfinished painting of a horse.
