Qvevri - 8000 years of winemaking tradition, shaped by hand in Bali
Building a Qvevri is a reviving an ancient Georgian ritual, making it by local clay, building coil by coil, firing wood kiln, coating with beeswax, putting underground to let wine cure in harmony with earth. Its how Georgians have been making wine in Qvevri for a millennia - a method of winemaking recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
It took me one year to complete my first Qvevri while being manager of the studio. Indeed it has cracks and lots of different techniques i have tested on it, but it is a learning curve, and this piece covers everything I have been experiencing and learning during this time.
Galungan - Beautiful celebration ceremony details mixed with georgian Blue tabla symbols and Indonesian batik patterns.
decorated with multiple layers of story telling and the beauty of tessellation.
