Reflection. Oil on canvas 2021. On its way to Athens for an exhibition on the 28th of June at - This painting was born during the pandemic.
At the time, I thought it was about confinement. A man working from home, books piled on his desk, plants growing around him while the world outside stood still.
Looking at it years later, I see something else.
During those months, so many of us longed for movement, travel, possibility. We dreamed of trains, airports, distant horizons. Today we’ve regained much of that freedom. Yet I wonder if we lost something in return.
The ability to spend an afternoon with a book. To sit quietly with our thoughts. To be somewhere without feeling the need to be somewhere else.
Perhaps every era has its own form of freedom, and its own form of longing. This painting lives somewhere between the two.
