Rong Ji Hotpot is a space where culinary tradition meets contemporary elegance. Inspired by the warmth of the hearth and the legacy of Chinese architecture, the design balances dramatic lighting, modern textures and timeless materials.

The fire at its heart symbolizes connection and heritage, grounding the design in a deeper purpose: a celebration of food, culture, and community. A timeless space, crafted with intention and care.

Rong Ji Hotpot | Let Light Guide Emotions

Lighting is more than illumination. It’s an expression of mood and guides emotions. In this project, we embraced sensuality and drama through carefully curated fixtures and shadows. The play of light and darkness enhances textures, silhouettes, and spaces, creating an atmosphere that feels intimate yet grand.

From the warm, golden glow of handcrafted pendants to the mysterious interplay of diffused and concentrated light, each element is tailored to evoke a timeless elegance and a cinematic allure. The lighting design shapes how the space breathes—subtle yet unforgettable, moody yet sophisticated.

✨ Let there be light, but let it tell a story.

Rong Ji Hotpot | Inspiration Board

At ZH, we believe inspiration is not a spark; but a deep dive into culture, context, and connection. Every new design begins with a story, a conversation from which then we build our inspiration board to further develop together with our clients.

For this project, the fireplace became a symbolic and functional centrepiece—a tribute to the hearth as a gathering place in food culture. In Chinese culinary tradition, the fireplace is more than a source of heat. It represents community, a shared experience, and the comfort of home. This idea guided our vision, shaping the space into one that feels both intimate and ceremonial.

The creative process is a balance between honoring the past and imagining the future. Here, the glow of the fireplace anchors the design, radiating warmth and inviting conversation.

Rong Ji Hotpot | Material Palette

The material palette for Rong Ji Hotpot is a careful study in balance. It reflects the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.

▪️Stone and Brick: Black stone and textured brick ground the space with a sense of permanence and authenticity.
▪️Patterns and Textiles: Traditional Chinese motifs are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, honoring heritage while embracing modernity.
▪️Warm Tones: Deep reds and burnt oranges add depth, complemented by soft metallic highlights.
▪️Light and Shadow: Carefully considered lighting reveals the textures and layers, creating a subtle interplay of light and shadow.

Each material speaks to the harmony of tradition and innovation, forming the foundation for a timeless design.
