Yesterday (October 11), a caring member of the public found a large red-white-blue woven bag on the street and heard faint meows coming from inside. Upon opening the bag, the citizen was shocked to discover 2 pet carriers crammed with cats, and immediately brought them to our association for emergency assistance.
When our staff received them, they discovered that 7 adult cats had been crammed into those 2 small carriers. Tragically, 5 of the cats had already passed away, while the remaining 2 were in critical condition, breathing their last. We immediately reported the incident to the police and arranged for urgent veterinary rescue.
However, upon detailed examination, the veterinarian confirmed that the two surviving cats were in an extremely dire state, suffering from high fevers, bleeding from the mouth, and severe respiratory distress. Due to their critical condition and lack of response to treatment, to prevent them from enduring further agony and suffering, the heartbreaking decision was made to humanely put them to sleep.
The Police and SPCA inspectors both arrived at the scene to follow up. Initial examination by SPCA inspectors confirmed that all 7 cats were British Shorthairs. Some showed bleeding from the nose and mouth, and their overall physical condition was extremely poor. The bodies were taken away by the SPCA, and the police have classified the case as "Cruelty to Animals" for further investigation.
This is a deeply tragic and heartbreaking incident. Abandoning living creatures and leaving them to suffer a slow, painful death is utterly unacceptable! We feel immense sorrow and regret for not being able to save their lives.
