I grew up in Germany. Whilst I was studying, I developed lower back pain so I bought myself a second hand kneel chair, It helped my back a lot, but what I loved the most was that you can rock on it! I just couldn't sit still while studying and the fact that I was able to move (rock) made an enormous difference to me.

My father was a master carpenter and I followed in his footsteps. However, afte

r working for several years and finishing my masters and wood engineering degree in Germany, I decided to do something totally different.
​
I went to Hong Kong to work with people in trouble. Living with men having drug addiction problems and looked after teenagers who had dropped out of school. I have done this for the last 20 years. We had weekly woodwork workshops with the teenagers and one day I remembered my rocking kneel chair. We designed one and build 10 as a project.
​
In Hong Kong, kids are forced to sit still for long hours at school. This can be torture, especially for boys who love to move around. I have 3 kids, so I built a child size rocking chair for them. They loved it!
​
Working with wood was always an important part of my life, and I am enjoying spending more time doing this again. My dream is to offer an environment where kids with their parents can spend time together, creating things out of wood and being proud of what we achieved with our hands. I look forward to meeting many of you at our workshops.

2 Workshop Options 工作坊選項:
A) 4 hour workshop, building EITHER the seat OR the frame from scratch.

B)7 hour workshop, building the seat AND the frame from scratch. This option might sometimes be available in two sessions.

The workshop fee is per chair, not per person. You can work alone, as a couple or as a family together. The workshop fee stays the same.

If you want me to build the chair for you please remember: The ergonomic kneeling chair is handmade and it can take 6-8 weeks to finish the product.

The Ergonomic Kneeling Chair allows spine to sit in the “S” shaped position, which conventional seating somewhat constricts. It encourages sitting straight up and release pressure on the neck and the lower back.
The option to be able to rock will help to release stress and concentrate better.

Different kinds of wood for the frame is available: solid walnut wood, solid oak wood and high quality multiplex plywood from Norway with maple veneer.
The seat is covers with real leather and you can choose a colour that you prefer.

過去四年，Drewswork 成人木工基礎課程已吸引超過250位學員參加。今年夏天，我們特別為兒童及青少年推出木工課程，讓年輕學員親身體驗設計與製作的樂趣。
The Drewswork Basics Woodworking Course for adults has had more than 250 participants in the last 4 years. It’s time for kids and teens to learn basic woodworking skills as well.

兒童木工基礎課程 Basics Woodworking for Kids:
現誠邀 10–16歲兒童參加暑期課程。家長可免費陪同參與，可選擇與孩子一同動手，或在旁觀課。
課程採用小班教學，每班最多4位學員，由德國資深木匠 Ulli Drews 親自授課，並以英語及廣東話教學，確保學習清晰易明。
學員將由零開始設計及製作個人作品，並學習：
•⁠ ⁠木材基本知識
•⁠ ⁠傳統榫接技巧
•⁠ ⁠木工手工具的使用方法及安全
課堂會使用多種傳統手工具，例如鎚、鑿、手鋸及手刨等，讓學員全面體驗木工製作過程。
適合喜歡動手創作，或對木工有興趣的學生參加。
I invite children from the age of 10 - 16 to join the summer course. Parents can join with the child - no extra charge! Parents can either work with their kids or just watch.
Every course will have a maximum number of 4 students only.
German Master Carpenter Ulli Drews will teach the classes in English and Cantonese.
The students will be able to design their own item and craft it from scratch. We will use hand tools like hammer and chisel, handsaw, hand planer... We will teach about wood in general as materiel, how to connect solid wood with traditional joints, the use of carpentry hand tools and its safety.
Every child who enjoys using their hands building things or wants to learn about it will love this course.

青少年木工基礎課程 Basics Woodworking for Youth:
我們亦設有 14–18歲青少年木工基礎課程，由 Jon 教授。課程共4節，每節3小時，除以上基本木工技巧外，亦會介紹：
•⁠ ⁠CAD 設計（Autodesk Fusion）入門
•⁠ ⁠CNC 木工基礎概念
學員需自備手提電腦。
We also invite teenagers from the age of 14-18 to join the Youth Basics Woodworking Course taught by Jon.
This 4x3hr session course will cover the same basic woodworking skills, and also introduce the basic skills for using CAD software (Autodesk Fusion) for design, as well as basic CNC woodworking components.
You will need to bring your own laptop.

BASICS Woodworking COURSE:

基礎工作坊旨在為有興趣把木工作為認真嗜好的人士提供良好入門。
課程費用：$2800（全包）。
所有課程均可用英語和粵語授課。
Marking out, material preparation, joint cutting, tool sharpening, surface finishing...
The BASICS workshop is designed as a good introduction for those interested in pursuing woodworking as a serious hobby.
Course fee: $2800 (all included).
All classes can be taught in English and Cantonese.

Intermediate Course: In this 2x6 or 4x3 hours course we learn all about carpentry POWER TOOLS. Their usage, pros and cons of different brands, safety measures, special tips, hands on practise... We will learn how to use: • Circular Saw • Power Drill • Jigsaw • Router • Compound Miter Saw • Table Saw • Belt Sander • Random Orbital Sander • Planer • Impact Driver • Nail Gun • Band Saw • Biscuit Joiner - and more.
Every participant will design and build their own, individual small piece of furniture.
Only people who completed the Basics Course are qualified to join the Intermediate Course.
Course fee: $3300 (all included).
