Shoutout to our favorite eco-friendly paint store . When we need to paint a feature wall we always turn to this knowledgeable shop to help us find the color we need, and if we can't find what we want they will custom blend a shade. You'll recognize this wall from last week's posts; it was done in a shade made just for us. They even named it "B ² Blue!" ⁠

OK, so this isn't exactly home, but it's my home away from home (the B Squared Design office). An observant eye will recognize the photograph on the wall behind my desk. It is "Yellow Cocoon #2" by one of my favorite artists from last Monday's post...⁠

I had this neon sign made six years ago after barely surviving dealing with a particularly difficult client who took out his personal life frustrations on my team. A HUGE no-no if you're ever working with me. Design projects always have their ups and downs-it's unavoidable. But being rude and overreacting is completely unnecessary and counterproductive. We always handle any issues that might arise (without being yelled at). So just be nice!!!

I love this city, but at times it can feel crowded and overwhelming! As today is Buddha's Birthday (a public holiday here in Hong Kong), I thought I would share a lovely place to visit when you're in need of a break: The Chi Lin Nunnery.⁠

It is a retreat for Buddhist nuns, and you really feel like you've been transported to another time when you're there. With bonsai trees, a lotus pond and beautiful carvings, once you step through the gates you instantly feel more calm and peaceful. The architect in me is also amazed that the halls were built without a single nail! All of the cypress beams were made to perfectly interlock "making it the world's largest 'handmade' wooden building, and the only one of its kind in Hong Kong."

As promised, here is Monday's design board come to life (go back if you missed it!). I made a few changes and adjustments as the design progressed, but the spirit of the conceptual design was still very much alive in the finished product. This was a great apartment, and served our family well through Covid.⁠

If your hairdresser's hair doesn't look good, does it worry you at all? It might make me pause and reconsider before I allowed someone with bad hair to touch my own head! 😅 So with that in mind, this month I thought I'd do something a bit different and show you some examples of apartments that I've designed over the years for my own family. Hopefully this makes you more likely to trust me and my team to help you renovate your own home!⁠

I chose my current apartment because it had a spiral staircase (which I've wanted since I was a kid), but the stair itself was in desperate need of an upgrade. I had my contractor remove the carpeting and the outdated scrollwork, sand the whole thing down and paint it bright pink. It's a true conversation starter when people come over, and now I can't imagine it any other way!⁠ ⁠
