Now that summer is over and I’m spending more time at my desk in Budapest than in the garden, I’ve been reflecting on how much our industry has changed.
For decades, luxury meant complexity: racks of processors, video and audio matrixes, endless custom code. I’ve built those systems for most of my career - and I still do. In fact, both our Budapest apartment and our countryside home run on fully integrated Control4, handling lighting, comfort, AV and security seamlessly.
But the convergence of networking, IoT, and AV is changing the game.
Today, smart TVs and streaming devices can sit in each room, integrated over the network. Control comes through eARC, CEC, or Bluetooth remotes - not flawless across brands, but improving every year. Traditional matrix distribution is becoming unnecessary.
The result? Leaner, simpler systems that are easier to live with.
And importantly, simplification doesn’t mean compromise. It means shifting the budget to where it makes the biggest impact: higher-quality amplification, discreetly placed loudspeakers, and finishes that integrate beautifully into the design.
AI will push this even further, reducing the need for bespoke programming and endless subscriptions. The integrator’s role isn’t disappearing, it’s evolving - from building complexity to curating experiences that feel reliable, intuitive, and invisible.
True luxury has never been about how much gear you can hide in a cupboard. It’s about performance, elegance, and simplicity - delivered without friction.
