Most people walk into a space and notice the atmosphere.

Very few notice why it feels that way.

Good lighting isn’t about making fixtures stand out. It’s about guiding the eye, creating depth, making materials feel richer, and making people want to stay a little longer.

In this project, the goal wasn’t to light the room.

There’s something really special about the process behind lighting design..

First it’s sketches, material samples, late night conversations about mood, warmth, scale, shadows. Then months later… you walk into the finished space and suddenly the feeling you imagined is actually real!

People see the final chandelier..
We see every tiny decision that made the atmosphere feel the way it does ☺️

Good lighting isn’t only decoration though.. It quietly changes how people experience a space, how long they stay, how relaxed they feel, even the memories they take home from it!

This project was all about balance: warm ambient glow, functional task lighting underneath, and decorative pieces that still feel architectural instead of random.

The glass spheres reflect light softly so the whole space feels warmer at night without harsh shadows or glare. ✨

One thing we always think about in hospitality lighting:
if guests notice the fixture before they notice the atmosphere… it’s usually too much..

The best lighting design feels effortless, even when every detail is intentional. 🙌

🚿 Bathroom lighting can completely change how a space feels… even more than the materials sometimes.

One mistake we see a lot is using one bright ceiling light and calling it a day. That usually creates harsh shadows, flat mirrors, and a space that feels more clinical than relaxing.

Good bathroom lighting is layered:
• soft indirect light for atmosphere
• functional light near mirrors so faces look natural
• warm color temperatures to make stone, wood, and skin tones feel alive instead of grey

Especially in hotels and villas, the goal is to make people feel calm the second they walk in. The best bathroom lighting almost feels like candlelight… but functional. ✨

One thing about hotel lighting: if people stop and stare when they walk in, you did it right. 🙏

For this project at The Chedi Muscat, we wanted the lighting to feel soft, warm and calm without losing the scale of the architecture. The hanging lanterns bring the huge space down to a more human level, while the indirect lighting keeps the arches clean and peaceful instead of harsh.

Good lighting in hospitality is never just about brightness. It’s about atmosphere, balance, and making people feel something the second they enter.

each piece is perforated so the light doesn’t just come out… it leaks through.
that’s why you get that soft glow + all those tiny shadows instead of one harsh beam.

we kept the light warm and low so the material does the work, not the brightness.
it’s more about texture and depth than “lighting up” the room.

this is what happens when the fixture becomes the atmosphere.

Our Desa Bulan project 💡

lighting spaces like this is tricky because it’s not really inside… and not fully outside either.

A few things we always think about:

• keep the light warm so it blends with sunset, not fights it
• don’t overlight.. you want contrast, shadows, calm
• place lights low + indirect so you’re not staring into glare
• let the view stay the focus, not the fixtures

if you light it like a normal indoor space, it kills the whole feeling.

this is about balance more than brightness.
