The master bedroom is designed as a quiet retreat within the house.
A soft, neutral palette is paired with warm wood tones to create a calm and restful atmosphere. Natural light is kept gentle and diffused, allowing the space to feel relaxed throughout the day.
Rather than adding complexity, the room focuses on comfort and balance—keeping everything simple, warm, and easy to live in.

This bedroom explores a slightly bolder expression through color and composition.
A warm, muted palette is paired with a strong accent piece, adding character without overwhelming the space. Natural light is filtered softly through sheer curtains, keeping the atmosphere calm and balanced.
The room is kept simple, allowing a mix of textures, tones, and a single focal point to quietly define its identity.

A restrained palette of soft tones and natural materials creates a calm and comfortable atmosphere, making the room easy to adapt—whether as a guest room or for everyday use. Natural light is allowed to enter softly, adding warmth without overwhelming the space.

Simple, functional, and quietly comfortable, the room reflects the overall approach of the house: spaces that are easy to live in and adapt as needed.

One of the major transformations in MG House happens in this area, where the layout is opened up into a more flexible open plan.

Previously defined by separated rooms, the space is reconfigured to allow the kitchen, dining, and living areas to flow into one another. This creates a more connected and adaptable environment that better supports everyday activities.

Natural materials and warm tones are kept consistent throughout, helping the space feel cohesive despite its openness. The result is a more breathable and social core of the house—where daily life can happen more naturally without rigid boundaries.

Positioned at the rear of the house, the courtyard acts as a breathing space between neighboring buildings.

Beyond providing a visual connection to greenery, this garden creates a necessary setback that allows natural light and air to enter the deeper parts of the house. It plays an important role in enabling cross ventilation, improving overall thermal comfort within the interior.

In a dense residential context, this rear garden becomes both a spatial buffer and a climatic strategy—quietly enhancing the quality of everyday living.

Inside the house, spatial circulation is carefully reconsidered.
Corridors are designed not merely as connectors but as moments of transition. Natural light, framed views, and artworks introduce visual pauses along the movement through the house.
These subtle gestures transform everyday circulation into a sequence of spatial experiences.

Not every renovation needs to start from scratch.

MG House reimagines an existing home by introducing a new architectural identity while preserving its original structure.

The transformation is most evident in the roof—where a new pitched form with terracotta tiles reshapes the character of the facade. Deep overhangs, wooden columns, and natural materials create layers of shade, texture, and rhythm, inspired by the calm tropical language of Sri Lankan architecture.

Inside, the house is quietly recalibrated. The layout is reorganized, spatial proportions are corrected, and several new rooms are introduced to support the way the house is lived in today.

A careful intervention that allows an old house to evolve into a renewed tropical dwelling.
