Sculpted in cherry wood, Frederick E. McWilliams' (1909-1992) 'Twisted Form', seems a growing, living thing anchored only by its stone base, possessed of chameleon-like qualities, its meaning and shape eskewing fixed interpretation. First shown at the London Gallery in 1939, it is pictured above with the original catalogue from the 1984 exhibition, 'A Salute to British Surrealism (1930-1950)' at Waddington's Gallery, London, of which it was a part. A wonderful thing.
