Next week Design Week Dublin Dublin kicks off ! Really looking forward to my design talk with Amanda Bone - Architecture & Design

Design Talk: Thursday 17 September, 9.30am – 11am, at The Malt House, Grand Canal Quay.

Sara Cosgrove is Founder and Creative Director of Sara Cosgrove Studio and Founder of Grove & Co, leading two complementary businesses specialising in luxury interior design, interior architecture and turnkey delivery across Ireland and the UK. With over 20 years’ international experience, her career includes senior roles at Harrods and The Principal Hotel Company, following positions with Helen Green Design, Allegra Hicks and Candy & Candy.

Her studio creates timeless, commercially successful interiors across luxury hospitality, private residential and premium developments, while DESIGN & FIT OUT provides design management, procurement and fit-out services. Recent and upcoming projects include the redesign of Dromoland Castle Resort, Clancourts Park Place and a room at WOW!house 2026 in collaboration with Phillip Jeffries UK

A multiple SBID International Design Awards winner, Sara has been recognised in House & Garden’s Top 100 Interior Designers and Country & Town House’s Finest 50. She is also a respected speaker, industry commentator and former judge on RTÉ’s Home of the Year.

Aqua marine ✨

The most relaxing bedrooms aren’t necessarily the simplest — they’re the most thoughtfully layered.

This bedroom takes its inspiration from the marine world, but without taking the theme too literally.

Grasscloth wallcovering brings natural texture and movement to the walls, while white-limed oak bedside lockers keep the palette light and relaxed. Sculptural lamps add another layer — functional pieces that also introduce shape and character.

The design tip: when creating a restful bedroom, think beyond colour. Layer different textures within a restrained palette to create depth without visual noise. And when drawing inspiration from a place, in this case, the coast and marine landscape, borrow its colours, materials and organic forms rather than obvious motifs.

The result feels calm, tactile and quietly connected to its surroundings.

Wow!House is here ✨

For the past six months, we have been working closely with our exceptional room sponsor, to bring to life a truly transcendent Morning Room for this year’s iconic WOW!house at Chelsea Harbour. Owner and I met almost 15 years ago at a design conference in Morroco and it has been a gift to bring this ongoing collaboration to life.

As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and this remarkable space is the result of countless hours of dedication, creativity and collaboration by multiple people. In particular, the tireless efforts of from our studio and from the Phillip Jeffries team who have been instrumental in transforming an ambitious vision into reality.

The design journey began with Aura, Phillip Jeffries’ innovative and utterly captivating wallcovering, which became the hero of the scheme. From this singular starting point, our concept evolved into what I affectionately describe as a “a serene sanctuary”, a room designed to transport, elevate and restore. As layers of furniture, lighting, art and materiality were carefully curated, the narrative grew richer and more nuanced. Beautiful pieces from alongside exquisite lighting from , helped define the room’s character, while evocative watercolour illustration provided an early vision that inspired everyone involved throughout the design process... Comfortable contemporary ✨

Classic contemporary isn’t about chasing trends — it’s what you land on once you’ve grown tired of them.

Five things that separate a quietly luxurious living room from one that’s simply… trying:

1. Start with a focus on the interior architectural elements of a room…
If the bones aren’t right, no amount of cushions will save it. Keep it restrained, balanced, and easy on the eye.

2. Buy less, but buy properly
One exceptional sofa will do more for a room than five “perfectly fine” pieces ever will. This is not the place for compromise. Or in this example a timeless yet punchy fireplace…

3. Layer materials, not visual distractions!
Stone, timber, linen — all working together, none shouting. If everything stands out, nothing does.

4. Respect the power of space
Not every corner needs filling. In fact, the most expensive rooms usually look like they’ve resisted the urge.

5. Obsess over the details (quietly)
Bespoke joinery, tailored finishes, lighting that actually flatters — the things you notice without quite knowing why.
