🔧 WHY WE NEVER REPLACE JUST ONE BROKEN FRENCH DOOR HINGE!

⚠️ One broken hinge can mean damage to ALL the others!

💡 Here’s something every homeowner should know!

When a French door hinge fails, the weight of the heavy glass door becomes unevenly distributed, putting extra strain and pressure on the remaining hinges, potentially weakening or damaging them too!

That’s why at UPVC Window & Door Doctor, we don’t believe in replacing just one hinge!

✅ Glass carefully removed
✅ ALL old hinges replaced
✅ A 4th hinge added for extra strength and support where three were originally fitted
✅ Glass correctly toe-and-heeled to distribute weight properly
✅ Doors fully aligned, adjusted and tested for safe, smooth operation

🛡️ Why do we do it this way?

Because we guarantee and warranty our workmanship! We believe in doing the job correctly the first time, not taking shortcuts that could lead to another failure.

🚨🪟 BRAND NEW WINDOW – ALREADY JAMMED! 😱🔧

Just because a window is new doesn’t mean everything is working as it should! 👀

We were called out to inspect a newly installed window that was catching and refusing to open. 🚫🪟

Rather than forcing the window open and risking damage, we decided to investigate further! 💪

🔍 OUT CAME THE ENDOSCOPE CAMERA! 📹

Using our specialist inspection camera, we were able to look inside the window and identify exactly what was causing the problem.

✅ First, we made sure the locking mechanism wasn’t jammed or caught in the keep.

❌ Our inspection then revealed that the locking mechanism was actually jammed against the window frame itself!

🔧 Our next step will be to carefully release and open the window, inspect the hinges and replace them if necessary, as we suspect they may be damaged or incorrectly sized.

💥 WHY DO WE GO TO THESE LENGTHS?

Because we believe in doing the job properly! 🙌

This is a brand-new window, and the last thing we want is to cause unnecessary damage to the customer’s new installation.

🛠️ Diagnose first. Repair correctly. Protect the customer’s property.

Sometimes it’s the specialist equipment, experience and extra care that make all the difference! 💯

🚨 ANOTHER FAILED BACK DOOR BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE!

A customer contacted us after their back door became extremely difficult to operate, was catching on the frame and could no longer lock properly! 🔒❌

🔍 ON INSPECTION, WE DISCOVERED:

❌ Complete failure of the locking mechanism

❌ Handle held on by just ONE screw — and even that was rounded off! 😳

🛠️ SO WE GOT TO WORK!

✅ Removed the damaged handles and failed mechanism
✅ Thoroughly cleaned down the door
✅ Installed a brand-new multipoint locking system
✅ Fitted new top and bottom shoot bolts
✅ Installed a brand-new door handle

🚨🚪 BURST HINGES ON FRENCH DOORS – A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN! ⚠️🔧

Another set of French doors saved by UPVC Window & Door Doctor! 💪🪟

This customer contacted us after discovering serious damage to the hinges on their French doors. The top hinge on the main door had completely burst, and on closer inspection, several of the other hinges had damaged and burst screws! 😱

⚠️ With the weight of heavy double-glazed French doors, damaged hinges are a serious safety concern and should never be ignored!

🔧 SO WHAT DID WE DO?

✅ Carried out a full strip-down of the existing hinges

✅ Removed all 6 damaged and worn hinges

✅ Installed brand-new replacement hinges on both doors

✅ UPGRADED BOTH DOORS FROM 3 HINGES TO 4 HINGES EACH! 💪

✅ Added extra support to help distribute the weight of the heavy glass

✅ Fully realigned and adjusted both doors

✅ Ensured both doors were opening, closing, locking and sealing perfectly 🔐

🏆 THE FINISHED RESULT!

From dangerous, damaged hinges to French doors working LIKE NEW AGAIN! ✨

With 8 brand-new hinges instead of 6, both doors now have additional support, improved stability and are operating safely and securely for the customer. 🙌

💡 OUR ADVICE: Don’t wait until a hinge completely fails! Dropped doors, stiff handles, difficulty locking or visible hinge damage are all warning signs that something isn’t right.

🏡🪟 BER RATING COMING UP? MAKE SURE YOUR WINDOWS ARE SEALING CORRECTLY! 🔧✅

We were contacted by a customer who was preparing to have a BER energy rating carried out on her new home! 🏡

One of the large top-hung windows had been badly damaged after strong winds caught the sash and twisted the hinges. 💨⚠️

With her BER assessment approaching, the customer wanted this window, along with a few others, repaired and sealing correctly.

🔧 Here’s what we did:

✅ Carefully removed the large window sash
✅ Removed the damaged and twisted hinges
✅ Installed brand-new replacement hinges
✅ Realigned and adjusted the window
✅ Ensured the window was opening, closing and sealing correctly

🎯 THE RESULT?

Another window saved! 🙌 The window is now working perfectly, sealing tightly and helping prevent unwanted draughts and heat loss — all completed in time for the customer’s BER assessment! 🏡🔥

🚨🔨 CHARGED FOR A REPAIR… BUT THE WINDOW WASN’T EVEN REPAIRED! 😳🪟

Just because someone says it can’t be fixed doesn’t mean it can’t be! 👇

We were repairing a customer’s window when a neighbour asked us to look at his large top-hung window.

The wind had damaged the hinges, leaving the window unable to close properly.

Another company had visited the day before, tapped the hinge with a hammer, removed the locking keeps and got the window closed — then charged for the visit! 😳

❌ Hinges still damaged
❌ Locking keeps removed
❌ Window not properly repaired
❌ Gaps and draughts remained

We got to work and:

✅ Repaired the damaged hinges
✅ Reinstalled the locking keeps
✅ Realigned the window
✅ Restored smooth opening and closing
✅ Ensured the window sealed and locked properly

A window that was supposedly “too big to repair” was working perfectly again! 🙌

Before leaving, the customer also asked us to check his front door, where the gearbox latch was sticking.

We tried lubrication first to help save him money, but the gearbox had failed and needed replacing.

🔧 New gearbox fitted
🔧 Handle operating smoothly
🔧 Latch releasing correctly
🔧 Door locking securely again

🏆 TWO REPAIRS. ONE HAPPY CUSTOMER.

There’s a big difference between simply getting something closed and actually repairing it properly.

At UPVC Window & Door Doctor, we provide honest advice, quality workmanship and practical solutions.
