🌟This is one of my favourite parts of Aoife’s testimonial.

Before we started, they weren’t sure what they could achieve within their budget — or even where to begin.

And that uncertainty is something I hear from homeowners all the time.

Do we need more space?

How much do we actually need to extend?

In this case, we did extend but only after we had worked out how to make much better use of the existing house.

Nothing has a dependable place.

You move belongings from one surface to another.

You clean, but never feel finished.

You search for things you know are somewhere in the house.

You try to protect one small area as your own.

You anticipate the clutter before you even arrive home.

Instead of coming home to relax, you come home to another list of things that need to be managed.

The problem may not be that your home is too small or even that it lacks storage.

It may be that:

You have more belongings than your home can comfortably contain.

Your existing storage is difficult to access.

Several rooms are trying to perform too many jobs.

One design decision gave this kitchen 78% more storage without extending.

Most homeowners think they need an extension when their home doesn't work for them.

But in this project, one design decision increased their kitchen storage by 78% without adding a single square foot.

What was the decision?

💡We switched the position of the kitchen.

The original layout forced the kitchen into the wrong part of the room, limiting storage, interrupting flow and wasting valuable wall space.

🌟By relocating the kitchen to a more functional position within the exact same footprint, we were able to:

• Increase storage by 78%
• Create better flow between the kitchen and dining area
• Add more usable worktop space
• Make the room feel bigger and calmer without extending

Same house. Same square footage. Completely different way of living.

This is why reconfiguration should always be explored before considering an extension.

It was about being able to see the kids playing in the snug while sitting in the living room.

It isn't about opening up walls…
It is about feeling connected to your family, even when everyone is doing different things.

It isn't about creating a view through to the garden…
It is about bringing light, life, and togetherness into the heart of the home.

It was never about just having a breakfast counter…

It was about being able to empty the dishwasher while he told me every detail about his school tour.

About hearing the excitement in his voice while dinner was cooking.
About being present for the ordinary moments that end up becoming the memories you miss the most.

That’s the thing about good design…
The layout was never the real goal… the moments it creates are.

Ellis The Wellis Turns 10

Today our baby turns double digits!
He is not a baby, he is OUR baby, I tell him everyday!

Ellis is the 'elis' of Cobelis. He is the most thoughtful emotional little man, who always knows the right things to say every time!

He is our big browned eyed handsome little boy who can get a tan in the rain. I have yet to pay for a tan that can match his!

He has always been into his hairstyles, from spraying his hair orange when he was in playschool to look like Ghost Rider with fire hair, to mohawks and mullets, he has always loved to be different!

Ellis is the one most likely to follow in my foot steps, he is very interested in design, space planning and how houses are laid out. He always wants to know what I am work on and why I have designed a house the way I have. When we were doing our renovations he was always so excited to see what the builders had done each day!
