Borrow a trick from fashion and add one thing that’s a little unexpected.

Just as an unexpected scarf, bag or piece of jewellery can transform an outfit, one surprising choice can completely change the feel of a room.

Here, it was colour.

So many of the details in this project began with a single slab of natural stone.

With natural stone, you don’t buy the exact pieces you need. You buy the slab. That means every cut needs to be carefully planned.

By planning ahead, we made the most of the slab while reducing unnecessary waste.

We used the same idea over and over again.

Repetition in a room doesn’t have to mean repeating the same colour, material or style. It can also be about form.

Look closely and you’ll see the same soft, rounded shapes repeated throughout this space. The curved edges of the dining table, the cylindrical legs, the looping form of the pendant light and even the soft folds of the voiles.

It’s those subtle repetitions that help the room feel calm, cohesive and considered.

It’s one of those design details you may not consciously notice, but it can be what makes a space feel considered and pulled together.

Sometimes it’s not about adding more. It’s about creating a connection between the things already in the room.

What’s taking shape here?

Every project starts with a vision.

When a project is at the steelwork and concrete stage, it can be difficult to imagine the finished result. That’s why we love sharing our vision alongside these progress shots.

This project is a contemporary extension to a period home. Rather than trying to imitate the original house, the extension has been designed to complement it while creating a much stronger connection to the garden.

The curved glazing isn’t just a design feature. It’s there to frame the views, bring natural light deep into the home and make the garden feel like an extension of the living space.

Really looking forward to sharing more as this project progresses.

How do you choose the right style of windows for your home?

Start with the house that’s already there.

This Victorian home had beautiful original windows, so preserving their character was important.

That doesn’t always mean replacing them.

If original windows are in good condition, they can often be refurbished rather than removed. That’s exactly what we did here.

The extension gave us a chance to do something different.

Rather than trying to match the original windows, we chose a more contemporary style that suited the new part of the house.

Every window has a job to do.

Think about the views you want to frame, the light you want to bring in, and how you want the space to feel. Those decisions should guide the size, position and style of your windows.

Your windows don’t all have to match.

In this house we kept the original windows at the front, chose contemporary glazing for the extension, and even used different colours—an off-white on the original house and an off-black on the new addition.

Because good design isn’t about making everything the same. It’s about making every decision feel right.

This is where it started.

Before the headboard, before the joinery … just carefully selected veneer sheets waiting to be transformed.

The beauty is in the consistency.

Using the same veneer across the wall panelling and floating bedside tables creates a calm, cohesive feel.

The result?

A bedroom where every detail feels calm, cohesive and quietly luxurious.
