Some moments in our printing studio this afternoon… the long autumn sun reaching into the room and falling on this print of midsummer flowers.

Hot Spiced Autumn Apple Juice

You’ll need:

1 litre apple juice
500ml water
Cinnamon
A little chopped ginger (optional)
1 star anise (optional)
1 tablespoon honey

Put everything in a saucepan and simmer gently for about three minutes. Strain out the ginger and star anise and pour into a flask.

Best shared on a cold walk close to some thick moss-covered old stones and a body of moving water. Ideally with a damp, mushroomy woody smell in the air.

Particularly good with a toasted cheese sandwich if you build a fire, or a regular cheese sandwich if it’s not that kind of day.

Through the Long Grass, the beautiful new book by Irish naturalist Eoin Warner, is out in the world.

We had the great pleasure of working with Eoin on the illustrations for the book — responding to his writing and to the landscapes, plants and animals that run through it.

We’ve written a little about the process and shared some of the work behind the book, over on our journal.

We also have a small number of copies signed by Eoin available from the Superfolk shop.

I often think about how beaches get all the attention at this time of year - but there so much beauty and wildlife to explore and enjoy along our lakes. And most likely - you’ll quite possible have the place all to yourself.
Here’s some of what we saw yesterday in a few short hours along the shore of Lough Carra.
An abundance of wildlife orchids of so many varieties we lost count

Forget me nots
More damselflies than we’ve ever seen before - the air was thick with them. It was spectacular. Doesn’t really show up on video very well but watch the video carefully and tune in to the light blue colour.

There is so much to wonder at once you slow down and start to pay closer attention. Oh and one more thing - it’s all absolutely free.

In our June Diary this month we write about a child’s lawnmower frustration, fearing spiders, wildlife ponds, a sunny evening dinner at the beach, and birdwatching on the machair.

Along with a few thoughts on taking sides, flexibility, identity and trying to share our love of the natural world with our children.

Sycamore Keys

Today we’re adding a Sycamore Key print to our collection of Woodland Treasures.

Few things capture the simple pleasure of childhood quite like a sycamore helicopter. We still can’t resist picking them up, tossing them into the air, and watching them spiral gently back to earth.

This new block print celebrates one of the nature’s treasures.
