Classes & Workshops @ The Lampshade Academy Following a background in Interior Styling, Sarah trained under two of the U.K’s Master Lampshade Makers, expanding her knowledge and expertise into this field of interiors and with a focus on distinctive lighting, Shady and the Lamp was born. Using traditional form and practice we give eclectic lampshade frames an off-beat edge by combining trend-driven fabrics and directional design. Silk, Velvet, Irish Linen, Tweed and Cotton are sewn or backed onto brazed frames which are bound, drafted, and lined, all by hand in our Dublin based studio. The Joneses will quake.

WE’RE HIRING!

We’re looking for a Studio Assistant / Lampshade Maker to join our small, creative team in Portobello, Dublin 8.

This is a hands-on role across lampshade making and restoration, as well as packaging, photoshoots and creating social media content.

Ideal for an emerging designer, maker or creative looking to gain experience, develop their practice and learn new skills in a working design studio.

12–14 hours per week, across 2 days
Portobello, Dublin 8

Previous craft or textiles experience is a bonus, but enthusiasm, a good eye and a willingness to learn are more important.

We’re thrilled to announce our collaboration with Interiors Atelier in Ranelagh - a beautiful new range of handmade lampshades, designed to bring warmth, character, and a little bit of fun to your space. And now, we’re inviting you to bring your own creativity into the mix.

Join me, Shady and the Lamp, on Thursday the 23rd of October in Interiors Atelier, where you’ll have the chance to design your very own lampshade.

Choose from our curated range of shapes and materials, and create a piece that’s uniquely yours. Whether you’re drawn to bold prints or soft subtle weaves, this is your opportunity to design something truly personal.

Once you’ve chosen your favourite materials, we’ll whisk your bespoke lampshade into production ready to light up your home in just 2–3 weeks.
