Highly efficient, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) could slash the world's electricity consumption. They are already sold in stores, but more widespread adoption of the technology has been hindered by high costs due to limited availability of raw materials and difficulties in achieving acceptable light…

Remember: An LED bulb's wattage rating doesn't indicate its brightness; its lumen rating does.

A light-emitting diode, or LED, is a type of solid-state lighting that uses a semiconductor to convert electricity into light. Today’s LED bulbs can be six or seven times more energy efficient than conventional incandescent lights and cut energy use by more than 80 percent.

Electricity is measure in kilowatt hours on your electricity bill. 1 kilowatt is equal to 1,000 watts, calculating how many kWh a particular device uses is as easy as dividing by 1,000.

To calculate energy consumption costs, simply multiply the unit's wattage by the number of hours you use it, to find the number of watt-hours consumed each day.

For example: let's say you use a 125 watt device for three hours per day. By multiplying the wattage by the number of hours used per day, we find that you are using 375 watt-hours per day.

125 watts X 3 hours = 375 watt-hours per day

Calculating how many kWh a particular device uses is as easy as dividing by 1,000.

375 watt-hours per day ÷ 1000 = 0.375 kWh per day

GU10 and the MR16 are the two most popular spotlights used in the home today. Most people have them in their kitchens, dining room and sitting rooms. Your existing halogen spotlights are incredibly expensive to run. Halogen spotlights normally run at 50 watts per bulb while our LuminÉiredirect LED run at just 5 watts per bulb. A simple calculation tells you it is well worth replacing them since you can produce massive savings on your electricity bills by doing so.

LuminÉiredirect - Energy Efficiency:

Our LED COB is the most efficient type of illumination and lighting, with an estimated energy efficiency of 80%-90% when compared to traditional lighting and conventional light bulbs. This means that about 80% of the electrical energy is converted to light, while a only 20% is lost and converted into other forms of energy such as heat.

With traditional incandescent light bulbs who operate at 20% energy efficiency only, a 80% of the electricity is lost as heat...just imagine the savings on your electric bills.

The science of COB LED: COB LED means chip on board LED, it’s one of bare chip technologies, which interconnect bare chip to substrate by conductive or non-conductive adhesive, and then wire bonding to achieve its electrical connection. COB package is attach number of chips directly to the substrate, then packaged together by silica gel, epoxy resin or other materials, the yellow part is phosphor.

Light colour or colour temperature is measured in kelvins. The lower the number, the warmer 'yellower' the light. A standard incandescent bulb is somewhere between 2,700 and 3,500K.

Warm white will produce a pleasant yellow hue, resembling your standard incandescents, while cool white or bright white will produce a whiter light, with more similar to daylight more comparable to what you see in retail stores.

The wattage label is being phased out, all the terminology is now in lumens, so that it can be made standard across all light bulbs. Here’s a handy cheat sheet with approximate conversions for standard bulbs:

A 100 watt bulb is equal to 1600 lumens.
A 75 watt bulb is equal to 1100 lumens.
A 60 watt bulb is equal to 800 lumens.
A 40 watt bulb is equal to 450 lumens.

LuminEiredirect 5W COB LED gives an output of 500 lumens with 80° beam angle. Beam angle? Whats that you ask? Low beam angles 6-8 degrees are used to to produce a precise spot of light, while high beam angles of 100 degree plus are used for general floodlighting.

Did you know that inefficient lighting may represent up to a fifth of a household’s electricity consumption.
