My view today

I’ve noticed that a lot of new homes are choosing Roman blinds as their main window dressing, and they can look absolutely stunning. 🤍

However, I always recommend backing your Roman blinds up with a roller blind, especially on windows that receive a lot of natural sunlight.

Why? ☀️

Natural fabrics and beautiful colours can fade over time when they’re constantly exposed to UV light. A discreet roller blind can act as an extra layer of protection, helping to preserve the colour and condition of your Roman blind for much longer.

It’s not just about how your blinds look today — it’s about protecting your investment for years to come.

The video below shows a Roman blind that didn’t have a roller blind behind it to help protect the fabric from the sun. You can clearly see the effect prolonged sunlight exposure can have.

If you’re investing in beautiful natural materials for your home, protect them from the beginning. 🏡

Useful information for customers building in the future

At this time of year, I get lots of enquiries about roof blinds. Many people contact me looking for blinds for their Velux windows, but in around 80% of cases, the windows are actually Keylite, FAKRO, or another brand.

Something worth considering when choosing roof windows for a new build or extension is the range of blinds available afterwards.

Velux is one of the few roof-window manufacturers that offers an extensive range of blinds, including mains-operated motorised blinds, solar-powered blinds and lantern blinds, at a reasonable price.

So, if you’re building or renovating and know you’ll want blinds in your roof windows, it’s worth thinking about the availability and cost of blinds when choosing the windows themselves.

It can save you a lot of hassle — and expense — further down the line.
