On 24th July 2026, the Minister for Enterprise revoked the 1995 order that had governed flammability standards here for over 30 years.

Ireland's furniture flammability rule was one of the more distinctive in Europe, different from most EU countries.
Meeting it often meant treating upholstery with chemical flame retardants, substances that have since raised health and environmental concerns.

Ireland has now aligned with the EU's General Product Safety Regulation, in place since December 2024.
This is not a loosening of safety standards. It is a modernisation, moving from one national rule to a comprehensive EU-wide framework.

Furniture already on the market can still be sold as normal.
But going forward, manufacturers have more freedom in how they meet safety standards, without being tied to one narrow national test.

This is exactly the kind of thing we care about. We want to choose materials with our client's health in mind—not just materials that make a space look good.
We are only at the start of this journey ourselves. We are slowly researching what healthier choices actually look like in practice, and we will keep sharing what we learn.

Has the Crittall look had its moment?

We’ve always loved the simple, graphic rhythm of Crittall — a style that began with steel-framed windows in the late 19th century and became synonymous with industrial architecture and modernism. But like so many good design ideas, it has become so widely used that it can sometimes feel a little like the Millennial Gray era: once fresh, then suddenly everywhere.

We wanted to keep the character of the grid, but make it feel warmer and more connected to the home. So rather than steel, we chose timber with a rich walnut finish.

For us, natural materials matter. They bring warmth, tactility and a sense of permanence — softening all that glass and making the space feel more personal and inviting.

With over 600 metres of private waterfront, its own pier and 11 acres of indigenous oak woodland, this is one of those rare places where architecture quietly yields to the landscape. Tucked into a sheltered cove on the Ring of Kerry, every room looks either towards uninterrupted ocean and mountain views or into the surrounding gardens and woodland. It is here that a former guest cottage has been transformed into an understated retreat and a home for an Irish family based in San Francisco.

The original vernacular cottage has an intriguing past. It once belonged to the notorious English photographer Horace Roye, whose provocative n**e portraits scandalised London in the 1930s. This shoreline bears a striking resemblance to the setting for his Irish Maid series. Roye later sold the property to the Waterhouse family, who remained custodians of the estate for almost ninety years. During the 1940s, they built the main residence ,extended and remodelled the cottage into a guest house that welcomed visitors from around the world—a legacy that still informs the spirit of the house today.

When our clients purchased the estate in 2021, the guest house reflected its previous life as a successful B&B. The interior had been divided into multiple ensuite bedrooms, leaving little space for family life despite its extraordinary setting. Rather than simply updating the building, the brief was to completely rethink how it functioned as a home.

Designed for the couple, their young adult children, and a constant flow of visiting family and friends, the house balances sociability with moments of quiet retreat. The long, narrow plan of the living room and kitchen is carefully zoned through furniture placement, allowing different groups to gather independently while remaining connected. The result is a home that feels generous without ever feeling formal.

The interiors embrace a philosophy of quiet luxury. Nothing is shouty. Existing 600mm-thick stone walls, lime plaster and exposed oiled beams provide a beautifully restrained backdrop for for oak flooring, linen upholstery and layers of natural texture.

Can a small bathroom still feel like a designer bathroom?

For the en-suite in our Guest Cottage project, the challenge was to make a compact space feel generous, calm and considered without compromising on the details.

Every centimetre had to earn its place.

We tucked storage neatly beneath the basin, keeping the room feeling clean and uncluttered. The tap sits to the side of the basin. It's a small detail, but one that gives the vanity a more thoughtful and unexpected feel.

And instead of squeezing the shower into one corner, we made it the full width of the room. It gives the space a stronger sense of proportion and, somehow, makes the little bathroom feel so much bigger.

It’s proof that you don’t need a huge bathroom to create something special.

Small space. Thoughtful details. Big design impact. 🤍

PART 1 — THE KITCHEN

We’ve been looking forward to sharing this one for a while.

This project has finally come to life, and it is very close to our hearts. So, over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a little series of short videos, taking you through some of our favourite spaces and details.

We’re starting with the kitchen — possibly one of our favourite rooms in the whole project, and very much the heart of the home.

This house is a reflection of so many things we believe in and love: slow living, being outdoors, natural materials, beautiful craftsmanship, and creating spaces that feel lived in, warm and timeless. Most of all, it’s about bringing family and friends together — around the table, in front of the fire, and in all those everyday moments that become the memories we keep.

We hope you enjoy discovering it with Nathalie. 🤍

There is always that moment when you step back, look at a space, and think, "It's almost there." Everything works, but you know it's missing that one final touch.

For this project, we both knew it needed a rug. It was the last piece of the puzzle.

A huge thank you to our friends at Rugs.ie for coming to the rescue just days before our photoshoot! This 2 metre round rug was exactly what the room needed. It's amazing how one simple addition can completely transform a space and make it finally feel finished. 🤍

Milan Design Week may be over, but the inspiration lasts all year.

Some details stay with us long after we've left the showrooms. A material combination. A clever kitchen solution. The way light transforms a space. These moments become the starting point for our future projects.

This year, we found ourselves drawn to evolving kitchens, where function and craftsmanship meet in new ways. Lighting continues to play a defining role, shaping atmosphere as much as architecture. And chrome is confidently taking centre stage once again.

None of these ideas are entirely new. These materials have always been part of great design. What is new is the technology behind them, allowing designers to use them in ways that feel lighter, warmer and more refined than ever before.

It's an exciting time to design, and we can't wait to bring some of this inspiration into our upcoming projects.

Originally, the bungalow felt a little disconnected, with awkward transitions and spaces that were not really living up to their potential. The redesign was all about creating better flow, opening things up, and making the house work harder for busy family life.

By moving the master suite into the renovated attic, we suddenly had the chance to create a proper family bathroom downstairs, not just a functional space, but a room in its own right.

Because if you know, you know (any busy parents here?)… when kids are little, the bathroom basically becomes mission control 😅 Bath time, teeth brushing, splashing, storytelling, negotiations over pyjamas… everyone wants in at the same time.

So we designed a space that could handle the chaos beautifully: practical, playful, spacious, and calm all at once. A bathroom made for real family life, with enough room for the rituals, the mess, and all those little moments in between ✨
