Great to see my old workshop space being used regularly by the ETB as a training space today. I first started Riverlane in it in 1994 where i taught myself restoration and upholstery. it has a history dating back to the early 1800s, where it was built as tenement cottages.
The footprint you see here and all that remains of the row was 3 small one room cottages.These were vacated in the 1930s where many of the families were relocated to the newly built St Josephs park.
It later became a metal forge run by Bill Kavanagh. A bridge club briefly in the 1980s and a car wash in the early 90s. The cast iron diamond windows were fitted on the late 80s by my father Sean Quinn.They are the original cast iron windows from the Nenagh Workhouse in Tyone. This was burned down in 1923 in the Rising. Nenagh hospital was built in 1940 on the original footprint of that building. Lots of stories and history in Nenagh if you know where to look.
