Twenty years.
2006, just a little bit younger and full of enthusiasm. I headed off on my very first fair to Milan. Six months of inspiration travelling to Paris, Milan, London and Amsterdam until finally I opened the doors in Newcastle West.
Objekt Design Space began as a showroom. I wanted to bring brands you only ever saw in magazines into our homes.
Over the years Objekt changed and evolved. There were crashes and floods along the way too ! But the Objekt you see today, often described as an Aladdin’s cave, is home to a unique and beautiful selection of top European home interior brands, design-led gifts, lighting and home decor.
My parents, both creative and so encouraging, who were with me from my very first trip, thank you. To my sisters and brothers and their families, many, many hands have made light work. My husband, who has been so supportive, and to my own three children, who arrived along the way, you are all part of this story, and I thank you very much.
One of the most unexpected parts of this Story has been the deliveries. In the early days, late nights, country roads, no postcodes. But at the end of the road there was a house, a house that I’d have a small part in transforming into a home.
It has been a privilege to help decorate so many new homes and extensions, to get to know so many families, and as the years have passed being part of the same journey with the next generation as they start their own new chapter.
To our customers, from all over the country, many of you stopping in on your way to Kerry and now familiar, friendly faces, and to our loyal local customers we see week after week, thank you.
To everyone who has worked in Objekt over the years, thank you. It has always been a team effort, and we’ve all had to keep up with a retail world that doesn’t stand still.
Twenty years of doing what I love, and I’m so grateful to still be doing it. To mark the occasion, we’d like to give you a gift 🎁
