💡 SAVE this before ordering your next ceiling light, and send it to someone planning a renovation or new build.
A beautiful pendant can still look wrong if the scale, drop height or surrounding lighting has not been considered.
These are four of the most common lighting mistakes I see in Irish homes:
❌️Hanging a pendant too high over a dining table
❌️Choosing a fitting that is too small for the room
❌️Expecting one ceiling light to create the full atmosphere
❌️Ordering before checking the wiring and ceiling support
✅️For dining room pendant lighting, aim for roughly 75–90cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the fitting.
📏For a useful starting point on scale, add the room’s length and width in metres, then multiply that figure by 10. A 5m × 4m room gives you a suggested diameter of approximately 90cm. It is a guide, not a fixed rule, but it can quickly reveal when a light is likely to feel undersized.
💡And remember, the statement pendant is only one layer. Table lamps, floor lamps, wall lights and dimmers are what give a room warmth and depth after dark.
