Which flooring did we choose in the kitchen: the gray transition, the black transition, or no transition at all? Take a guess!

In this video I dig into the technicalities of merging SPC wood parquet with the (unfortunate) need for a profile in between, for which the color options are limited.

When funky things come up, you can either turn them into a fun feature or try to hide them. I gravitate towards making them a fun feature, but because we already have a bold tile in the kitchen, and we even experimented with a transition tile, sometimes enough is enough and you need to try to hide additional funk.

I've had clients bring me in too late in the design process. Here's what that costs:

Architects and landlords lock in the fundamentals: AC, electrical, sprinklers, approvals.

Then I sit down with your team. I learn how you work, what you need, and what you're building toward.

Then I design the space that fits. Not a generic layout, but a layout tailored to you.

And then:
→ Walls need to move.
→ Electrical points need to change.
→ Plumbing needs to re-route.

But the fundamentals are already locked. Every fix now means re-planning, re-coordinating, delays, and added cost.

Office design isn't decoration. It's the thing that shapes how your team thinks, moves, and collaborates every single day.

Bring your designer in early. It doesn't slow the process down, it prevents the expensive backtrack later.

Analysis of my home office ⬇️

✅ What works well:

→ Firm back support
→ Art by a friend
→ Desk lamp
→ Sunshine lamp
→ Cable organizer
→ Propped monitor
→ Spot for coffee away from laptop
→ Unique details
→ Kid love

❌ What's not ideal:

→ Desk faces a wall

I tell every client: Don't face a wall if you can help it. Right now, I'm not following my own advice.

I gave up my old office with a floating desk, a wall behind me, and a window at my side to my son. This niche was the trade.

☀️ The trade-off:

This room gets stronger natural light. And light beats layout, full stop. It's the first variable I check on every project, before I ever touch a floor plan.

Rules exist so you know when it's worth breaking one.

Your office isn't just real estate. It's:

→ A recruitment tool when you're hiring

→ A retention strategy when your competitors are hiring

I'm not talking about game rooms and flash. People actually appreciate quiet rooms and focus spaces far more, and they're better for productivity.

I'm talking about the things that make people happiest:

→ Choice

What people want most is the ability to choose the right type of space for the task at hand.

→ Natural light

Windows with good daylight coming in improve mood, energy, and concentration.

→ Quiet spaces

Not everyone thinks clearly surrounded by noise. People need somewhere to disappear into focused work without needing headphones or hiding in an empty conference room.

→ Cafes and communal kitchens

New ideas and team bonds happen over coffee, not in scheduled meetings. Give people a reason to linger.

→ Nature and greenery

Plants reduce stress and improve cognitive performance.

None of this is decoration. It's productivity and retention infrastructure.

You don't need to compete on ping-pong tables and snacks. (Keep the snacks though.)

Build a place that people actually want to *work* in and they'll want to stay, and others will want to join.

Step 3 in selecting colors and materials for this kitchen: Bringing in more color and umph.

The client finds the sage anemic looking and wants more punch and color. I’m all for more punch and more color!

I keep with the green theme to tie the outdoor garden in with the interior, but bring in a bolder green as well as some deeper tones and bright pop on the ceiling.

It ain’t over till it’s over folks. There are some new voices and ideas coming through and we’ll adjust until the space works for the client and relevant stakeholders.

Step 2 in selecting colors and materials for this kitchen: Floors.

The client wants to transition from parquet to tile in the main U of the kitchen to keep plumbing away from the parquet and for color variation.

I explore tiles at the showroom and, given the alignment of the cabinetry, I propose two different types of tile, both for visual interest and to accommodate the alignment.

You’re not sure whether the office space you’re eying will work for you.

The broker scribbled a layout on a napkin.

It’s a few quadrilaterals on a piece of paper. You don’t know what to make of it.

This happened to my client.

So he hired me to do a test fit.

The shape of the space was angular and tricky but I managed to fit in everything he was looking for.

He responded: “This is great and a very creative idea.

I love that you made the corner office mine and also moved the conference room to a less ‘prime’ location but it will still get plenty of light.”

The result: He bought the office with confidence.

What I love about interior design is that it’s infinite. There is always something new to learn.

I carve out a percentage of my working time for growth. New tools. New materials. Smarter processes. All of it feeds back into better results for my clients.

This week I attended Israel’s first AI for interior designers conference, learning alongside some of the best in the field and staying connected with clients between sessions. Nothing like checking in on drainage points with a view of the beach in Herzliya. 🙌
