Building a practice is as much about values as it is about architecture.

In an engaging session of the Leadership Dialogue Series, Ar. Ravi Sarangan Ravi Sarangan Founder Partner, Edifice Consultants, shared reflections from his journey of building a practice — from its early beginnings to its evolution into a pan-India multidisciplinary studio.

Through projects such as the TCS Campus, the adaptive reuse of the Voltas Air Conditioning Factory in Thane, and Taj Rishikesh, Ravi spoke about approaches to architecture that respond to existing landscapes, resources, context, and the possibilities within what is already there.

The conversation also explored the less visible dimensions of practice — building teams, nurturing talent, adapting to change, and knowing when a growing practice must evolve from quantity to quality while keeping design at its centre.

Jayesh Hariyani recognized as Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA)

We are immensely proud to share that Ar. Jayesh Hariyani Jayesh Hariyani has been recognised as an International Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) Royal Institute of British Architects one of the highest professional distinctions in architecture.

RIBA Fellowship honors architects whose work has made an outstanding contribution to architecture and society beyond the borders of their own country.

Following his elevation to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) in 2021, Jayesh now becomes only the third architect of Indian origin to have received both the FRIBA and FAIA fellowships.

A significant personal milestone, and a proud moment for the entire INI family.

The Annexe | Connecting Generations Through Architecture

Nestled in the serene surroundings of Anand, The Annexe is a contemporary extension to a multi-generational family home, thoughtfully designed to meet evolving lifestyles while honoring the character and memories of the existing residence.
Rather than replacing the old home, the design creates a seamless dialogue between past and present—allowing three generations to live together with the right balance of privacy, independence, and shared family experiences. It is a home where every generation feels equally connected and comfortable.
Inspired by the timeless Indian courtyard house, the residence is organized around a semi-covered courtyard that becomes the heart of family life connecting old and new structures. Minimalist architecture, crafted with local stone, exposed concrete, timber, metal, and glass, creates a warm yet refined expression. Vertical timber screens, generous cantilevers, and expansive glazing strengthen the relationship between architecture, landscape, and natural light.

The Annexe is more than an extension—it is an architectural bridge between generations, where tradition and contemporary living coexist in harmony.

How does a design practice evolve into a resilient, scalable business?

At IDA – IIID Design Atelier, organized by the IIID Ahmedabad Chapter IIID Ahmedabad , Ar. Jayesh Hariyani, led an engaging session on “The Business of Architecture & Design – Building a Profitable, Scalable and Enduring Practice.”

Drawing from over three decades of experience, Jayesh shared practical insights on running and growing a design practice—from fee structures, contracts and scope management to financial discipline, leadership, delegation, brand building and long-term institutional growth. The session encouraged participants to look beyond design excellence and embrace the systems, strategy and business acumen needed to build practices that are both meaningful and sustainable.

Architecture is rarely just about buildings.

In an engaging session of the Leadership Dialogue Series, Ar. Rajeev Kathpalia shared reflections shaped by decades of architectural practice, exploring how architecture is influenced as much by landscapes, history, climate, and culture as by form and material.

Through projects such as Nalanda University and the Smriti Van Earthquake Museum, alongside lessons drawn from India’s stepwells, historic settlements, and lived landscapes, he demonstrated how architecture can preserve memory, respond to climate, and strengthen our relationship with place.
