Sunday musings
Most of you here are aware that a fracture to my right hand kept me out of work for the last 3 months of 2023. I restarted in Jan ‘24 and with the last two weeks of Margazhi starting making kolams at our threshold more to work my hand back to action.

At best my kolam making skills are rudimentary!!
As have stated before I am an accidental kolam artist- a chance order a few yrs ago set me on this but I soon realised that painting kolam ( which came more easily) and drawing kolams are a totally different ball game.
Here are the kolams which I painted in Jan but did not share as they are definitely far from making the grade!
But a post by about what was the best that happened to me on Instagram prompted this!!
Apart from the just brilliantly talented people I got to connect with a few are now really good friends too my biggest gain has been my love for the art form of Kolam.
I find myself trying to be more regular with my daily kolams!! Painting and drawing kolams has been just great for my mental wellbeing too - it’s truly a therapeutic and meditative art form!!
So thankful to this platform and the numerous patented artists (too many to name)who have inspired me and also demystified this art such that anyone can enjoy this art form!!
Thanks for staying with me this far on this post and my little art journey.
What’s your biggest gain from Instagram? Do share in the comments ..

Not the usual bright post but nevertheless a very crucial step to making a quality product.
A successful small business is only possible when you deliver a quality product every single time. Very often the focus is on the visible only.
I endeavour to do my best with every single order and that always starts with the back. A coat of paint and vanish to ensure that the product has a long shelf life
Yes it does mean that my cost is higher and I also take a little longer to finish :)

Pl share if you found this useful and also what do you as a small business do to ensure a quality product..

How beautiful is this!!
Just a piece of teak beading, slightly sanded to enhance the grains, multiple coats of varnish to keep the hands safe and the hooks duly mounted..

Many months ago( well close to a year to be honest🙈) my friend had left these hooks with me to make her a simple wall hanger. We had picked these from Jew street on a girls trip to kochi for the Biennale. Can’t get simpler and prettier 😀

If you have hooks to mount this is a very easy diy for you to try.

My very first Poo Kolam!!
Doesn’t get better that the occasion was Chidambara Rahasyam- a homage to Chidambaram and Natraja( Lord Shiva in his form of a cosmic dancer). This programme last evening was a spellbinding collaboration between master artists in dance, music & storytelling.

Digressing a bit- my learning for the last year is ‘Maktub’from the Alchemist meaning that which is written or meant to be.
This to me was one such moment. No coincidence that of all the supremely talented kolam experts knows he yet reached out to me to draw a kolam for the programme.
Feeling an immense sense of gratitude that this was mine to do!!
(Do swipe for the pics and also my total fan girl moment)
Thanks to for her support and help

Did you say a bright and strong morning!!
This is the first sight that greets me every morning in my kitchen!!
All it takes for this pretty picture is a bright little stencil led manai with a small pickle jar repurposed as a planter… an easy decor tip to add charm to your home.

The first step to creating something is to imagine it!!

These Kolam bookmarks were for a young student who specifically asked me to make her a small gift for her teachers!
Her brief was it had to represent her culture- brainstorming a few ideas and these bookmarks turned out to be the perfect little souvenir from home!!
