Here are the three market traps, explained simply, and exactly how to cure them.
TRAP 1: The "Cheap Quote" Scam
a) The Problem: A designer gives you a quote that is much lower than the market rate. You think you found a great deal.
b) The Truth: Cheap luxury does not exist. If the price is low, they simply deleted essential items from the contract. Once your house is half-built and you cannot back out, they will force you to pay massive extra fees for basic things like cabinet hinges, final paint coats, and site supervision.
c) The Cure: Say this exactly: "Give me a written Exclusion List of every single item that is NOT included in this price."
TRAP 2: The "Pretty Picture" Scam
a) The Problem: The designer shows you a stunning 3D image of your future living room. You assume they know how to build it.
b) The Truth: 3D images are just cartoons. They have zero actual measurements. If a designer only uses 3D pictures, the labourers on your site will be forced to guess the measurements and build it by trial and error. Improvised work always looks cheap.
c) The Cure: Say this exactly: "I will not pay an advance until you provide the Technical Working Drawings with exact millimeter measurements."
TRAP 3: The "Brand New House" Scam
a) The Problem: The designer gives you a tour of a house they finished yesterday. It looks flawless, so you trust them.
b) The Truth: Every terrible job looks perfect on day one. But Bangalore's weather is harsh. Cheap wood warps and bad hardware sags after just a few months of real family living.
c) The Cure: Say this exactly: "Take me to a house you finished 12 months ago." If they hesitate or make excuses, they are hiding a house that is falling apart. Walk away.
You do not need a designer who sells you a dream. You need a designer who executes the math.
Reject the chaos. Hire the discipline.
