From a crafty school kid to a mompreneur, it was quite a journey and I would like to proudly share the same with the world. I was a craft loving child and ever since my school days, I loved to make small paper crafts as handmade gifts for people, hand written notes and greeting cards with my sketches. I loved doing Mehandi art for friends and relatives etc. Hand embroidery and other few crafts lik

e bead work was taught in my school and I even remember winning an Anchor Embroidry competition, that was regularly conducted at school. My hobby was usually encouraged by my family, especially by my mom. She always spoilt me with art materials and I still remember how she herself was enthusiastic about arts and crafts, even though she had very little time for them. Despite her overwhelming schedule, she was learning to knit from her friends while I learned to crochet from my neighbor. We also taught each other the basics of the same. Back in those days, my family used to jovially comment that they needn’t worry about me at all because I was blessed with all these skills and that somehow I could survive by using these to earn a living out of them. But well, at that point in time, none of us thought that it would one day become a reality and that I would end up becoming a crafty mompreneur one day. But here I am today, proud and happier than ever before. After completing my school & college education and the responsibilities of a being a new mum, despite being happily engrossed in motherhood, I felt that typical void that mothers feel after their children start full time schooling. Mine started it a bit early as well as I wanted him to socialise more. I choose a school that never pressurised children. Instead the school would engage children with various fun activities, make them eat their lunch themselves and then would put them all to sleep for couple of hours. Wow, what a favor it was, because putting him to sleep was the toughest challenge of all. Well, since his engaged him for a full 6 hours now, I tried out some career options that I converted and always dreamed about, only to quickly shelve them away for various reasons. One prominent reason that I could state here is that we wanted a certain standard of upbringing for the child and to achieve that we had to put in more effort and time towards it. Now I am glad that I could afford it and that I did it for my child. The only challenge I faced – the parenting job just required so much time not to allow a full time career but it did not completely occupy me. I was constantly comparing myself with my peers who were already settled in a good career and making good money. I didn’t know how to use my time positively. The result – loneliness and depression. As these vices were gripping away, very true to my nature of my blessed life, I had some of my friends to support me irrespective of their age. Some of them were creative souls and hobby crafters. One such spark was enough for me to rekindle my internet and crafting became my lifeboat that sailed me out of the ocean of depression and loneliness. I started to revisit my childhood days and revived my interest in hobbies of my past. Creating beautiful things and being constantly creative gave immense pleasure like none other. After my morning chores was done and my child sent to school, the time when my mind tricks me into over thinking and negativity, now it was time for merry crafting and may be some chai! Sometimes, I crafted as a group with friends at a common studio. We got to learn new things from each other, we explored various new areas of crafting and we throughly enjoyed it. This gave birth to an amazing crafty community and we all started to get benefited as a whole community. We gradually developed as a collaborative team and started to work together more. Each of us started certain creative ventures. With all the social media boom that just happened then, we decided to showcase our creations in the online platform as well. How was Papillon born?

From a crafty school kid to a mompreneur..it was quite a journey that I would love to proudly share with the world. My interest for making little crafts, sketching, mehandi art, embroidering etc were always encouraged by my mom and family. They would fondly say that they needn‘t worry about me as I was blessed with some skills that would help me earn a living. At that point in time none of us thought it would be realised into a reality and I will end up becoming a freelancer, a mompreneur one day. But here I am today, proud and happier than ever before.

After completion of my school & college education and responsibilitles of being a new mum, while I was happily engrossed in motherhood, I felt that usual void that mothers feel after their child starts full time schooling. I did try out some other career options which I always coveted and dreamed of, but which I had to shelve for the kind of upbringing that we both wanted for our child. But due to some less obvious reasons, I couldn’t continue those. So as anyone could guess, it led to the more obvious thing; I was slowing begining to get into the grip of loneliness and depression.

Through it all, very true to the nature of my blessed life, I had some of my friends to support me, irrespective of their age. Few of them were into craftin and creating as a hobby. It made me revisit my childhood days and revive my interest in the creative ventures. I started to involve myself in crafting and creating beautiful things gave immense pleasure like none other. I either worked at home in the mornings when my child was off to school or I preferred more to craft with my friends in a common studio. We gradually developed as a collaborative team and started to work together more. With all the social media boom, we decided to showcase our creations. Thus, the page Papillon was born. I choose this name owing to my french love. It literally translates to Butterfly 🦋; colourful, beautiful and free spirited.

Our Papillon has metamorphosised constantly ever since then, to become what it is today, a creative and customisable crafty gift store, teaching us many valuable life lessons in its own beautiful subtle way. Where else this journey is gonna take me, I am very excited to find out!
