CRAFT, COMMUNITY AND MEMORY
Photographs by Jyoti Bhatt

x

There is a particular quality of attention in Jyoti Bhatt’s photographs- unhurried, intimate, deeply observant.

Across nearly four decades, Bhatt documented living aesthetic traditions across rural India: painted thresholds, ritual walls, domestic spaces, gestures of labour and care. What began as note-taking became an act of devotion- a way of preserving visual worlds already beginning to shift and disappear.

Predominantly in black and white, these photographs now read as memory itself; quiet records of craft traditions that continue to endure, transform and speak.

CRAFT, COMMUNITY AND MEMORY
Photographs by Jyoti Bhatt

in collaboration with , invites you to Craft, Community and Memory a curated selection of archival photographs by Jyoti Bhatt.

Made between 1967 and 1994, these photographs trace Bhatt’s journeys across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Haryana, quietly documenting folk traditions and rural worlds on the verge of disappearance. Predominantly black-and-white, with a few colour works, they remain gentle records of a vanishing India, and of the hands that shaped it.

Four decades of looking, choosing, and disagreeing. In this series, we sit down with Mahijit and Nalin to understand the eye behind the collection.

at Vayu.

A jewellery brand built on the art of carving natural stones, working with generational lapidary artisans who shape precious and semi-precious gemstones with a precision only years of practice can produce. Each piece carries the mark of that process: the texture, the weight, the quiet detail.

Set in brass. Rooted in Indian tradition. Designed with a contemporary eye. This is jewellery made to be discovered in person.

Come find your piece at Vayu!
