Project Feature: The Crest, Kohima, Nagaland.

By day, crisp oak paneling and custom alcoves create bright, functional spaces for work and daily routine. By night, warm accent lighting transforms those exact same nooks into intimate sanctuaries of calm.

At The Crest in Kohima, every line is drawn with spatial restraint. Built-in oak millwork creates dedicated alcoves of solitude, while soft, localized illumination accentuates the raw, tactile quality of stone, woven cane, and grain. It is an exercise in soft minimalism: stripping away visual noise to elevate the atmosphere of everyday living.

Project Feature | The Crest, Kohima

Embedded within the sloped topography of Kohima, The Crest presented a unique set of architectural conditions: a pre-existing structure defined by low ceiling proportions and a floor plan separated across two distinct road levels.

Designed and realized entirely in-house by Kapunu Home, the intent was not to override these structural constraints, but to balance them through a warm, Mid-century Japandi sensibility.

True bespoke design requires total harmony between the architectural shell and the objects within it.
From raw timber selection to structural joinery, custom upholstery, and final millwork, every detail of The Crest was crafted under one roof. This integrated process allows us to control tone, texture, and proportion down to the millimeter—ensuring the furniture feels like a natural extension of the architecture.

Set against a soft, textured lime-plaster arch, this solid walnut console table was crafted to act as a quiet anchor within the home’s transitional zone.
Inspired by classic Mid-century timber joinery and Japanese minimalism, the piece balances graphic structural legs with a raw, tactile wood edge. Designed and produced completely bespoke in our workshop to suit the exact proportions of the niche.

Every architectural element—from the structural joinery to the bespoke furniture and tailored upholstery—was crafted within our workshop specifically for this site.

Through low-slung walnut forms, custom cabinetry transitions, and consistent material continuity, the change in elevation becomes an intentional pause rather than a division. Light filters softly across the plaster and timber surfaces, allowing the home to adjust naturally from morning to dusk.

The Crest represents everything we stand for at Kapunu Home: clean lines, warm minimalism, and total commitment to craft. Inheriting a pre-built shell in Kohima with strict height limits and dual road entrances, we turned constraints into character.
From full civil coordination and custom fit-outs to the bespoke timber furniture fabricated right in our factory, every detail was handled entirely in-house. To top it off, we had the honor of embedding an authentic, hand-carved Naga artwork—grounding contemporary design in our rich local heritage.

There is something incredibly grounding about the slow pace of the final walkthrough. Dusting off the surfaces and checking the joinery one last time before the keys find their new home.
The beauty is in the final millimeter.
