It's a quaint story of discovering the base. A vintage brass piece which appears to have been converted into an ash tray ... probably sometine in the 1970's.
Our hurricane glass fit so perfectly ... we seem to love it as a pillar candle stand now.
Drop by the gallery and discover our collection of curious pieces. We enjoy collecting both ethnic Indian vintage pieces as well as colonial Indian pieces. Ofcourse, designer pieces with curious tales and artisanal creations are always part of our eclectic mix.

Discovering new conversations over traditional grain measures. Called 'manna' ... in traditional Nepalese vocabulary. This piece is a vintage measure from Orissa.
Each region of India has a rich craft tradition and that would mean a 'manna' from Nepal would look nothing like this Orriya piece or a piece created in Southern India.
Do share what are grain measures called in your region ... 😊

Khandoba and Ardnareshwar, not just names from our rich mythology ... but stories buried back there some where.
With every piece we add to our collection ... there is a story we are bringing back.
We are in the process of reviving our blog ... with the same love and enthusiasm as we did back in 2008.
I do know many many of you are followers from back then ... our loyal readers who followed our journey from being a blogging interior designer to a designing, interior designer ... and finally an interior designer with a retail store and a design studio. Our Design Gallery , our whole new avatar is my freedom to finally follow at the age of 51, what I enjoy and love ... India, history, art and design.
We hope you will enjoy this part of our story ... just aa much.😊

Curious case of the over size glasses.
The first time I found such beautiful pieces was back in 2002. I lived in California and was visiting my mum in India.
Those large glasses I discovered had been in black metal and I could not take them with me because I had shopped for all the weight I could fly back with. I lived with a bit of dismay all these years ... and then ... like magic I found these two pieces ... 😊
So ofcourse, they had to be added to our collection. And now you get to drop by and see them and fantasize ... pretty white long stem lillies in them or a very English style medley of wildflowers. 😊

Pieces you collect, can be generational treasures ... simply because of the knowledge they bring into your life. Call them conversation pieces or collectibles ... they add to the depth of what a family discovers together... just through a piece or a collection of them.
Our 'Santhal' masks are just that. Years ago as I discovered about the style and craftsmanship of our very own indigenous people. The original Indians I would say. It was intriguing to read of their Austrio-Asian origins and genetic links to the other Aboriginal tribes across Australia and Papua New Guinea.
People who believe in spirits of their ancestors and live a forest based and an agrarian life. Their wood working style so strikingly similar to African and Aboriginal style.
Hope you take the time to discover more about Santhal and the braveheart Santhalese people who waged the first rebellion against the British Colonizers in the 1700 's.
This and so much more to discover as you visit our gallery space.

We are totally and completely stumped by all our our hard-core patrons ... who took time off on a Monday, to drop by our Gallery ... to make our first day sooooo special ... 😊
Thankyou so much ... for coming ... for the blessings ... thankyou for the flowers ... thankyou for much for the thoughtful gifts.
And even more wonderful were the conversations amongst this eclectic group. Gosh, the day flew.
But to top it all ... thankyou for reprimanding me 🙈 ... yes, I am completely guilty of having taken my own sweet time to open this gallery.
I completely apologize ... soo glad to hear from you all ... that it was about time ... 😄🙏.
