Part 2 of our Insider’s Guide to Antiquing in London — because one post was never going to be enough. This time: a village by a palace, a Moroccan-spiced market street, and the fair worth planning your trip around.
1. Hampton Court — Just steps from the palace, this little village hides 3–4 antique centres packed with 17th–18th century pieces. Lunch, a wander through the palace gardens, and an afternoon of digging through history — this is how it’s done.
2. Wimbledon Village — Trader Antiques here is a treasure trove of French antiques and rare Masons Ironstone finds. And don’t skip the charity shops — some of the best surprises in the village hide behind the most unassuming doors.
3. Golborne Road — The scrappier, more authentic end of Portobello. Spillover antique stalls, chic furniture shops tucked into old Edwardian tiled storefronts, Moroccan rugs, and bric-a-brac laid straight out on the pavement — this stretch rewards the ones willing to walk a little further.
4. Adams Antiques Fair — Held in Victoria, this is where the best dealers show up with their best curation. Worth blocking your calendar for — follow them on Instagram to catch the next date.
5. Camden Passage, Islington — A quaint little lane of antique and vintage shops tucked into one of central London’s most fashionable pockets — small, walkable, and easy to fall in love with.

Live now; A rare and atmospheric pair of Victorian gilt and gesso picture frames — white painted reeded borders with gilt beaded inner edge, surmounted by an ornate gilt bow and floral garland crest. Each frame retains its original black-and-white cabinet portrait photograph of an Edwardian lady, adding an extraordinary layer of historical character.

The frames bear the original maker’s label on the reverse: A. & R. Prescott, Picture Frame Makers and Mount Cutters, 53 Queen’s Road, Bayswater, London W.

A rare set of six Edwardian dessert plates by the Ceramic Art Co. Ltd., Crown Pottery, Stoke-on-Trent, dating to c.1905. In teal-green transferware, they feature a profusion of florals, acanthus scrollwork and Rococo cartouches, finished with a scalloped rim.

The Ceramic Art Co. was one of Stoke-on-Trent’s lesser-documented quality makers of the late Victorian and Edwardian era, making complete sets like this increasingly hard to come by. The plates have extensive age-related crazing throughout—120 years, after all, leaves a mark—and exactly the sort collectors love.
