A beautiful kitchen is easy. A beautiful kitchen that really works? That’s where the design comes in.

For Shikha & Rajat’s home, we kept the palette muted and understated, but packed the kitchen with thoughtful details — layered lighting, clever storage solutions and making every little corner work harder.

Because for me, good design is never just about how a space looks. It’s about how effortlessly you can live in it. 🤍

And here’s Part 2 of this honest and heartfelt review …❤️❤️

10/08/2026

Shikha and Rajat are a year senior to me from college. We weren’t close then, or for years after, but our friendship really took shape about 15 years ago.

They are two of the warmest, friendliest people I know and genuinely so loved. They are also the best hosts — some of my craziest evenings have been with them! And since I am technically their junior, they make full use of it to bully me 😅 usually by pouring shots down my throat. I have, thankfully, learnt a few tricks to dodge them 😂

Last year, when I did my first big Homework event, I roped Shikha in to help me plan the menu because she is brilliant at it. At that point there was no home and no conversation about me designing one.

A few months later, a mithai ka dubba arrived at my house saying, “We’ve bought our home and you are going to make it.” ❤️

I was thrilled… and slightly nervous! Rajat works in luxury and designing for friends always comes with that little extra pressure. There were a few challenges along the way and perhaps a couple of sleepless nights 🙃 but mostly I remember how much fun we had — especially our shopping trips!

And now, every time I walk into their home, I’m so happy with how it all came together. Shikha’s review makes my heart very full ❤️

I had a brilliant team on this project and they pulled it off beautifully.

Thank you Rajat, Shikha & Riana for trusting us with your home. Here’s to a beautiful new home and many more crazy times together ❤️

It’s been a massively rewarding week for me. ❤️

Sometimes consistency, hard work, honesty and integrity open doors you never imagined would open.

This week, Homework was awarded an incredibly prestigious design assignment. I can’t say much about who it is for because of the nature and security of the project, but what makes it even more special is that someone involved had quietly followed my work for years and recommended us. You never really know who is watching your journey.

Our first designs went through almost immediately — about 90% right in the first shot. THAT felt good. Because I’ve always said: I design for you. I listen to how you want to live and design for you, not myself.

It did mean cancelling Japan 😭 but holidays can happen again. Opportunities like this perhaps don’t. (And I’ve convinced myself avoiding typhoons and earthquakes was a wise decision 😂.)

I also walked into this with an almost entirely new team, which honestly made me nervous. But they have been extraordinary — working harder, faster and with incredible precision. Watching them step up has made me immensely proud.

Perhaps that’s my biggest learning this week. Change can be scary, but sometimes it reminds you what YOU bring to the table — and reveals the talent already around you.

Sometimes a door closes just as another opens. And sometimes what’s waiting on the other side is bigger than you imagined. ❤️

A well-planned kitchen is a real boon, and for me, it’s absolutely essential. Making a space simply look pretty should never be the only aim of good design. Beauty and function have to go hand in hand, and at Homework Design Studio, that’s something we really believe in.

DLF built and handed over these homes only a few years ago, and I still find it hard to understand why the kitchens weren’t planned better, especially given the scale and reputation of the brand. Anyway… we were called in to redo this one, and keeping everything from storage and movement to everyday functionality in mind, I think we’ve managed to create a kitchen that works just as beautifully as it looks.

And the best part? The homeowners love it just as much as we do. ❤️

A little sneak peek into what lies ahead… ✨
In conversation on shoot day with my friend and client, Shikha Kapoor, in a home that has been such a special one to work on. So much to show you from this space — the stories, the details, the design decisions and, of course, the finished home. For now, just a little glimpse of what’s coming your way. ❤️

I’m so excited to finally share this project with you very, very soon.

It isn’t the first time I’ve designed a home for friends, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t just a little nervous this time. The design philosophy was slightly different from what I naturally gravitate towards, which meant stepping just outside my comfort zone. But that’s also what made the journey so rewarding.

Like every project, there were challenges, disagreements, deadlines and moments where we all wondered if we’d get to the finish line. When you’re working with close friends, there’s an added sense of responsibility because it’s not just a home—it’s their investment, their trust, and a relationship you value deeply.

Today, as I sit in their home after our shoot, I feel incredibly proud of what my team and I have created. Three months in, it’s a home that’s being lived in, loved, and talked about—and I don’t think there’s a bigger compliment than that.

Every home should reflect the people who live in it, not the designer. My job is simply to bring that vision to life, while quietly leaving behind a few little signatures of my own along the way.

I can’t wait to show you this one.

Size has never mattered to me. What has always mattered is this: when the renovation is complete, do the homeowners truly smile when they walk through the door? Did the space become everything they had hoped for?

Meeting the proud owners of this home today, I think their smiles answered that question better than words ever could.

This was a tiny home, so making it beautiful was only half the job. Every inch had to work hard. We reimagined the open kitchen, created purposeful storage throughout, and ensured everything had a place. The result? A home that feels calm, functional and completely free of clutter.

My favourite part, though, was bringing the homeowners’ love for Japanese design to life. From Shoji-inspired panels that cleverly conceal unattractive windows to custom Shoji grills disguising the MCB unit, every detail was thoughtfully considered. It was one of those ideas that involved multiple vendors, endless coordination and a fair few challenges—but seeing their vision come together made every bit of it worthwhile.

Here’s a walkthrough of this delightful little home, filmed just as it is. No excessive styling, no staging—because I truly believe homes should feel lived in, not dressed up for the camera.

And trust me… you’ll want to see the before-and-after photos. They’re coming soon. ✨

As I work through a fresh set of bathroom renders for a very exciting new project, I found myself looking back at some of my favourite bathrooms we’ve designed over the years. Funny how a pattern emerges—green, in one shade or another, always seems to find its way into my work. I suppose some colours never really leave you. 💚

Until I can share what we’re currently creating, here’s a little walk down memory lane with spaces that still make me smile.

Small spaces always make me nervous… for about five minutes. 😄

My first reaction is usually, “How on earth is this all going to fit?” But then I sit down, think it through, and remind myself that size is rarely the problem. Poor planning is.

This is probably the smallest kitchen we’ve ever designed, but I’m ridiculously happy with how it turned out. Everything has a place, nothing feels forced, and it doesn’t feel cluttered for a second. My favourite bit? The arch around the kitchen isn’t just pretty—it hides loads of crockery storage. I love it when a design detail works just as hard as it looks good.

That’s really what good design is all about. Not making a space bigger… just making it work better. 😎
