Every design has a story, but this one came with more drama than we had planned! When we first started designing this space, the idea was to have a bar and a powder bathroom. But the building had other plans, and what could have been a design challenge turned into one of the most dramatic spaces I’ve created! Thankfully, my friend, client and biggest cheerleader, Deepali, was completely on board with all my crazy ideas and happy to take the drama as far as we could! We started with a beautifully carved, custom-made bar that worked perfectly with the existing aesthetics of the home. The stunning blue floral wallpaper was just the complement the new Jaisalmer stone flooring needed. And then came the lighting! The store we sourced these gorgeous fixtures from actually called them the Heeramandi lights, so we brought in a little old-world charm from Purani Dilli! The oversized mirror adds a beautiful sense of depth to an otherwise linear space, while the two entrances, one from the dining room and the other from the passageway, make this bar quite literally the heart of the home. What started as a compromise became one of my favourite design stories. And the end result? You couldn’t miss this bar even if you tried! 💙

Today, I’m not posting about a project. I’m posting about the person behind the projects. ❤️

I never really set out to build a brand. All I knew was that I enjoyed what I was doing, it excited me, and I wanted to give it my 100%. Every new idea brought with it a new excitement, and one thing led to another. Somewhere along the way, Homework evolved, and so did I.

It’s been 14 years of hard work, determination, commitment and a whole lot of learning. I’ve met some wonderful people, made friends through work, had people take advantage of my trust, been disappointed, been judged and learnt a few lessons the hard way. But that’s all part of the journey, isn’t it?

People often tell me I’m an open book. And I am. I share my happiness, my frustrations, my achievements and even my difficult days. When I recently went through surgery, I didn’t feel the need to hide it. Why should I? It’s my life, and I’ve never believed in pretending that everything is perfect. I’m sure some people have opinions about how much I share, but I’ve reached a stage in life where I’m quite comfortable being exactly who I am.

Every home I’ve worked on has a story, and I remember them all with great fondness. Some projects have been wonderful experiences, others have tested every ounce of my patience! But the joy of seeing a completed home and knowing that you’ve made a difference to someone’s everyday life is something I hope I never take for granted.

I’ve made mistakes, I’ve learnt, I’ve grown, and I continue to do so. But one thing I’ve never compromised on is my integrity. I know how hard I’ve worked to get here, and I know the honesty and commitment I’ve brought to my work.

Some people will love you, some won’t, and some will judge you regardless of what you do. I’ve made my peace with that.

At 47, I’m proud of the woman I’ve become, the business I’ve built and the fact that I’ve done it all by being myself. No pretences, no apologies.

And if there’s one thing I hope never changes, it’s my excitement for what I do. ❤️

Who says dark bathrooms have to feel small? đź–¤

Every time someone thinks of a dark bathroom, the first reaction is usually, “Oh God, won’t the space look smaller?” Well, not if you treat it right! I’ve always loved the drama of a dark bathroom, but I also believe that going completely black isn’t necessarily the best choice for a bathroom you use every day. For this one, we chose a beautiful deep black with a hint of green for the walls, balanced it with lighter wood-toned flooring and a black vanity. But the real magic was in the mirrors! While the statement mirror above the vanity holds its own, it was the mirror we placed along the side that became the game changer. It created this wonderful illusion of depth, almost doubling the space visually and making the bathroom feel so much larger. And of course, you know my love for pendant lighting! I think hanging lights in bathrooms add that little bit of drama and character that makes a space feel special. After all, why should bathrooms be boring? They’re spaces we use every single day, and I think they deserve a little fun too! Sometimes great design isn’t about what you put into a space, but how cleverly you use it. What do you think? Would you go dark in your bathroom?

Good lighting can make all the difference to a space! Don’t be afraid to spend that little extra on an interesting light because sometimes that’s all it takes to add character to a room. Whether it’s a wall sconce, a pendant, a chandelier or a beautiful lamp, let it make a statement! It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of layered lighting, and creating beautiful corners with interesting lights is probably one of my signature design features. Sharing some of our project photos where I’ve used lights that are not just functional but also pieces of art in their own right. Hope you enjoy them as much as I’ve enjoyed picking them!

Another day, another home, another beautiful story coming together! ✨

From choosing the right furniture and fabrics to getting the lighting, artwork and every little detail just right, it’s all about creating spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.

We’re still adding the finishing touches, with carpets and side tables yet to arrive, but we couldn’t resist giving you a little sneak peek!

And today, it’s the art that’s stealing the show! ❤️

Sometimes the inspiration for a room comes from the most unexpected places. In this case, a pair of green pants I was wearing! đź’š

We had been trying to arrive at just the right shade of green for this bar at DLF Icon, and one day I walked in wearing a pair of pants that turned out to be exactly the green we were looking for! And that’s how the colour story of this room began.

From colour drenching the walls and ceiling to bringing in the bold black-and-white chequered floor, designing a bar with some serious oomph and finding lighting to match, this was such a fun space to create. I still remember our fabulous day out shopping for those gorgeous bar stools, and then the excitement of seeing everything come together on setup day!

The result? A bar that makes you want to pour yourself a drink and stay just a little bit longer. Some projects are just that much more fun to bring to life, and seeing this one featured in GoodHomes makes it even more special!

Making a home is great fun, but it’s no easy task! Especially in a world of Pinterest, Instagram and endless inspiration, where sometimes there’s more information than anyone knows what to do with! As designers, our job goes far beyond creating beautiful spaces. It’s about understanding people, interpreting their dreams, guiding them through choices and finding that balance between what looks fabulous and what actually works.

Every home takes months of conversations, decisions, creativity, patience and a whole lot of teamwork. And when all that effort gets recognised, it feels incredibly special! Especially for a studio like ours that’s still building its name, one home at a time.

So here’s a little happy news from HomeWork Design Studio! A beautiful home we created for dear friends has been featured by both GoodHomes and India Today Home! And I couldn’t be happier. These little milestones mean a great deal and make the entire journey so worthwhile. ❤️

At HomeWork, no project is ever too big or too small!

Sometimes we design an entire home from scratch, and sometimes we simply reimagine what already exists. Because good design isn’t always about bringing in something new. It’s also about making what you already have work better, look better and feel different!

At this home in DLF Magnolias, it was all about a functional makeover with an aesthetic refresh. The drawing room was reimagined using the homeowners’ existing furniture and accessories, improving movement, repositioning lighting, and adding little touches of wallpaper and fresh curtains to bring everything together. We also reworked the AC ducting to improve its functionality while integrating it more aesthetically into the space.

The pantry was redesigned as a beautiful extension of the bar and dining area, creating smarter storage while adding to the overall aesthetic of the home.

After all, don’t we all get a little bored of seeing the same furniture in the same places? Sometimes a fresh perspective is all a home needs!

And that’s what we love doing at HomeWork. Finding possibilities in spaces, whether we’re starting from scratch or simply giving an existing home a whole new story to tell.
