After 3 years of major testing, failures and patience we finally managed successful Raku ware. Raku ware is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, most often in the form of chawan tea bowls. Fairly porous vessels, which result from low firing temperatures, and the removal of pieces from the kiln while still glowing hot, after removing pieces from the kiln, the wares are placed in an air tight container filled with combustible material, which results in carbon collection due to lack of oxygen in the container. Leading to a reaction between glazes and carbon resulting in metallic finishes.
